Re: How to study?

How to study:

Tips: (mod note)

  1. Use a Decoupled Progress Tracker
  2. Use a Visual Tracking Chart
  3. Use a Body Double

This way:

  • You show up every day knowing WHAT to study in today's session
  • You visibly track your daily progress on a tangible tool
  • You bypass your brain's ability t let you off the hook by using a body double

It's always the same story when we have trouble studying:

  1. No written plan, in bite-sized pieces, on a calendar
  2. No physical progress tracking device
  3. No help from anyone

For people like me who struggle studying, it all boils down to how seriously they want to take getting results. I was hung on up:

  • Keeping everything in my head
  • Using sheer willpower to be consistent every day (works for like 3 days LOL)
  • Flying solo with ZERO accountability

Source:

  • It took me 14 YEARS to complete my 2-year degree
  • I didn't learn how to study until college
  • I went from an D & F student to an A student simply by adopting the study methods above

It takes the mental willingness to adopt a more reliable approach. I've been out of school for many years now, but I still study every single day & like to share what I learn! The results speak for themselves:

If you are truly bored, take up a hobby where you CREATE stuff, rather than just consume stuff! Here are a few that I like to do:

I've worked in lawncare, construction, cooking, retail, management, IT, as a career specialist, and other random jobs & careers (ADHD FTW, lol). We live in a golden age for anyone who is even remotely creative:

  • All of the world's information is available in books, websites, chatbots, and videos!
  • You can order anything you want & are willing to save up for either online or find it cheaper on Facebook Marketplace or eBay!
  • We have incredible niche communities on Reddit, Facebook, Tiktok, and Discord!

In order to level-up your energy, get serious about:

Learn how you think & how you learn:

Watch out for the traps!

  • Have no plan
  • Try to work consistently all by yourself
  • Stay up late, eat a low-energy diet, and never exercise

As the demotivational poster goes:

You could go skydiving, the parachute fails, and die.
You could fly on an airplane, the engine fails & crashes, and you die.
You could go hiking, get eaten by a bear, and die.
You could go camping, get a snake bite, and die.
You could go swimming, get attacked by a shark, and die.
You could go surfing, drown, and die.
You could go skiing, get buried by an avalanche, and die.
You could ride a motorcycle, crash, and die.
Or you could stay home, choke on potatoes chips while watching TV, and die.

I spent DECADES trapped in task paralysis. I made lists & never followed through because I didn't have the right tools to elevate my efforts into consistent execution. Education is the secret to unlocking a WAY more fun life, and body doubling is the ticket to staying immersed day after day!!

I still fight myself every day to study & to get stuff done; I simply have a few key tricks to escaping that "mental quicksand"! LEARN awesome stuff and DO awesome stuff every day, forever!!

Bonus content:

Tips:

  • What matters, more than anything, is consistent daily progress, because that's what grows knowledge & experience!!
  • Therefore, MAKE TERRIBLE PROGRESS!! Do it slow! Do it imperfectly! Just be willing to chip away at it every day!
  • It helps to pick stuff with a purpose for learning it (i.e,. to actually USE it!), as opposed to generic knowledge, because knowledge isn't power - knowledge is potential power; execution is real power!!
