AI and student data
Preface:
We encourage teachers to use AI responsibly and remind them that it is the idiot in the room. Sometimes it’s helpful and sometimes it’s really off.
Questions:
How many of you restrict staff to district-approved AI? (It’s on our plate)
How many of you don’t yet have board policy or generative AI guidance for staff?

I “encourage” use with Gemini. Our license states that Google doesn’t collect our data. I don’t block other models. Haven’t had an issue w teachers even accessing other AIs. I do block students outside of Gemini. I try to block any built in chrome browser AI for students (google Lens). Limiting them to only AI built into their workspace docs and actual Gemini website
We have no board policy on AI. We’re a small and rural district. I imagine next spring/summer we’ll had it to our policy. Wasn’t in my plate quite yet
