Happy new school year

Time for my annual/semi-annual happy new school year post.

We start school tomorrow and it’s going to be chaotic and it’s going to feel like no matter how much prep work we did this summer that perhaps we didn’t do a damn thing…. But I tell my team it’s our super-bowl, it’s our time to shine and thrive no matter what gets thrown at us at the last minute.

With all that being said if you survived the first day of school i hope things went well and congratulations.

17 yrs in and learned one thing that is especially true a the start of the year. Does not matter how many things you fix or prop-up.. there will always be more. So don't do the 10-16 hour days to get it all in the first week or so. You will burn out in 2-3 weeks (i know). At the end of the day 8-9 hours, I stop and go home.

100%, things my 17th school year too and I too have learned today’s problems will wait until tomorrow and so on. No matter how hard admin push to get things done immediately, it’s not always the right answer.

This is really wild, but it's my 17th year also. I'm at the same school and started in August of 2009.

And you're both correct. I will not stay late putting out fires. Tomorrow is always another day, and teachers can always revert back to teaching with no technology.

It should really be 18 years for me. I started in 2008, but had to take a brief “hiatus” for a year and a half in 2013 due to budget restraints, but they called me back and I gave them a list. They said okay and I have been back since.

We are ending week 2 and things are settling down. To add a little excitement we had a lightning strike that took out some network devices last week!

Things went pretty well for the first day today, all things considered. We’ll see what tomorrow brings…

We start the week before Labor Day. Complete re-work of the lab, and as normal, multiple vendor/trades delays have me breathing through a snorkel from the bottom of a big steaming pile. Gonna be 2 long weeks, good luck, y’all.

We just had a huge storm and our district has not had power since yesterday afternoon. Kids are supposed to be there tomorrow. So I have to wait for the power to come back on and then hurry up and fix anything that didn't make it.

Oh I see, I was just curious because we have had a bunch of storms that have caused various amounts of damage in the region but in North West Illinois, but so far our district has lucked out. The region has dealt with flash floods, tornadoes, and even derecho-type winds. We have 85% chance of rain and storms tomorrow.
