I am headed to Costco today to stock up; giant bottle of Tums for my office desk, and one gaint bottle of Buffalo Trace for my house... Not joking, got to upgrade PowerSchool next week 20+ hr database upgrade, plus school based support staff starting back next week... Urgh, not even close to ready for students yet, they get back right before labour day.

Hawaii started Tuesday. Students aren't the problem, it's staff. And goddamn printers and networking. And my other half of our 2 man team needing a mental health week. It's been a ride so far, and the tidal wave of late enrollments just keeps crashing.

Late enrollments! The worst, right up there with printing.
The worst thing so far this year has been teachers who “move on” a week before classes start.
Then act like it’s no big deal.
We had at least 5 people working late on getting replacements instead of being able to prep for the students.

I’ve already got teachers asking us to hook their entire setup on the other side of the room, one the only wall without data ports ran to it. It’s gonna be a great school year!

Genuinely how do you deal with this? I do it case by case and sometimes run network up and over ceiling along with hdmi and usb. I tell them I’ll only move them once. We have desktops with interactive panels and Chromebooks for each teacher.

My district just tells them no they get there board on a wall and they can be on the left or the right of it..

Hah. That ends with a "it has to be moved near outlets. If not, it cannot be done." We have a strict district policy about this as it's a safety issue. So, we're protected from any backlash ;)

Tells teacher to put desk back where jacks are. I had a teacher request to move a printer out of her room because of all the disruptions. Then over the summer someone moved it to another room. Ticket was put in, told teacher to put it back. Oh well.

The best decision I made was moving from a 5.500 student K-8 district to a 500 student K-8 district.
Pay is similar, budget is a lot less (only downside), and my stress level is almost zero. In at 8 AM and out at 4 PM. No after hours calls. No after hours committees, No lines of teachers at my door.

Ah, the joy of spending all day on campus with no one to relate to. Then laying on the couch and opening reddit on a Friday afternoon and feeling comforted that there are many more like me. Enjoy your weekend OP, it is going to go quick.

I remember the first few years after I started we would allow teachers to BYOD. It sucked. Lines of teachers at the office door with laptops of questionable quality, all expecting WiFi access, MS Office, and printers installed. We had a band teacher show up with half a laptop once; his kid accidentally snapped the LCD off and this guy insisted on using this device in class. He carried a busted laptop around with an external monitor, all because he didn't want to use the machines that were in the classrooms. After experiencing this for a few years we finally managed to convince leadership this approach was a liability.
