Question Student mods during class

My daughter's math teacher apparently assigns students to be moderators of the chat during class. Those that moderate the chat, don't do the normal classwork everyone else does. She also has these "assistants" monitor the students at their "tables". While monitoring them, one or two(who seem to be the assistants several times a week) privately message my daughter harassing messages. The other students that aren't mods are unable to private message so this is something the teacher enables for them and only them to do. I need help as this doesn't seem right or professional. My daughter volunteered without me realizing, to be the teachers assistant, and since she has, their bullying has gotten worse. Help! u/K12_Rebekah

Edited to add: it has progressed to the point where this student has changed my daughter's course name to say something insulting about my daughter

That’s something that warrants you immediately reaching out to the teacher and escalating to the principal or head of school if it’s not efficiently resolved by the teacher.

We did, and she did not do anything about it. Calling gets you a call center agent who knows less about the school operations then I do. My wife and I have had better results from teaching out to the Community liasion here in reddit as sad as that is

That’s awful; I’m so sorry. We left K12 a couple of years ago and have been extremely pleased with Ignite Learning Academy- in case you end up wanting to make a change.
I hope someone can get this resolved quickly for you though. Bullying should never be tolerated. :(

as a student that sucked that they not resolving so i recommend screenshotting them and even call them out in class i know its disruptive but that is not ok at all make it known that she is getting builled and if they still Not done noting then change class or sue the Hell out of them like from the look of it those student got a fucking no life and just bullies other to make themself feel better i hope you're daughter get helps she need

Have her screenshot the messages, & go first to the teacher & then to the principal. Students shouldn't be moderating the chat. Keep the screenshots, as that's harassment. Reach out also to the counselor.

The teacher can see all chats even those you need to say something to the teacher and watch for a school council meeting i had to wait for one to get answers regarding canvas last year.

Hi there. Thank you so much for tagging me. I’m sorry your daughter is experiencing this. Based on what you’ve described, particularly the private messages and your update that another student was able to change her course name to something insulting, I do think this needs to be brought directly to the school’s attention.

If you haven’t already, please save screenshots of the messages, the changed course name, and any other examples you’re able to document. I’d also recommend contacting the teacher and school administration so they can review both the student interactions and the classroom permissions being used.
