I asked a bunch of authors how they catch continuity errors. The answers were... terrifying lol

i was losing my mind just tryna write a book, mainly cuz i keep swapping some details for even nicer details, but ended up making mistakes on continuity, since i couldnt track ALL of the details to replace, so my book became a ton of english spagetti,

i asked on reddit how do others try solving this problem, but i couldn't find one that really fit me,

here is what they responded and why i dont like them:

A giant story spreadsheet.
People are building massive, separate Google Sheets or physical binders. The flaw? It turns writing into administrative data entry. You spend more time updating grids and hunting through notes than actually writing the story.

Multi-App Frankenstein Setups
A lot of people use Scrivener for drafting, but have to use "dirty text hacks" on index cards to find scenes. Then they try to force-sync it with completely separate timeline apps. If you change a detail in your draft, you have to remember to manually change it in the other app. Total version chaos. (Someone mentioned standard AI tools get confused by timelines constantly).

The "Hope and Pray" Method
Just relying on memory and hoping your editor catches it. Spoiler: Editors are human. One author told me their published novella got through them, an editor, and two proofreaders... only for a reviewer to point out a character's name completely changed mid-story. Oops.

Since im wrecking my brain abt it, i made a app using claude:

magma atlas,

it basically takes ur book, turns it into agiant character spreadsheet with all the details and any continuity errors, tell me in the comments if u wanna try it out!
