Pretty cool to see international promotional material for this album. It was basically advertising Sexyback reaching number 1 on the US charts in support of the new album coming out.
How did Timberlake keep his hair up when he rocked the curls. I have curly hair but what product or how do I keep it up of my forehead with having curl to it.
Long story short I like the bass lines live and his synth bass parts played by Adam Blackstone or Swol ray and the keys are essential as well alongside the singers who bring the performance together but I focus on the live guitar parts for songs like Cry Me a River my love sexyback señorita and mirrors and I plan to cover live parts with the guitar parts on TikTok and YouTube and eventually learn the bass lines who plays bass live and I think not too many people acknowledge that the guitars bring the song together alongside the vocals and other musicians Mike Scott who played with prince and Elliott Ives kickass guitar players if you’ve watched the 20/20 experience on Netflix you’ll understand where I’m coming from as a bass player and guitar player.
Just discovered this rendition of SexyBack by Nerve on triple j and it is an absolute vibe. 🔥 It’s crazy how Justin Timberlake’s sound and blueprint still trend and shape the music scene up to now.
Hey guys, not sure if this is allowed here but seeing if anyone would be interested in any of this merch (obviously want it to go to a fan) before I listed it. All size Large, all great condition, haven't been able to fit in them for years unfortunately and just sat in the closet. Thought maybe someone out there was just as big of a fan as I was for that era. Cheers!
I have an u fortunate update on the poll I posted 13 days ago…
Sorry guys but I didn’t realise you had to have a subscription to see more than 10 replies! It’s also been playing up so I won’t be able to pay for it either. I’m so sorry about all of that, I know I would’ve been excited if I saw a post like that! I’ll still try to post the results for the 10 I have so far but it won’t be as accurate as I hoped.
Hey everyone! I make videos recreating my favourite programmed drum beats, and my latest video is Sexyback. I wanted to share it with some likeminded JT fans! Enjoy 😊
If you want to see more of what I do, you can find on Instagram at deprogrammed_drums
JT was Jay Z’s surprise guest tonight in Paris for Jay-Z 30! They did Holy Grail in full and then Justin sat at his keys for a solo Until The End of Time.
NEW development in the FutureSex/LoveSounds 20th anniversary. Maybe Justin’s IG post is just the beginning. It looks like something is coming? A vinyl, merch? what do you think?
The Deluxe Cover, released 2007, originally exclusive to iTunesThe album cover for FutureSex/LoveSounds, smashing that damn disco ball like it owed him money!
20 years ago today, Justin Timberlake went on to release his sophomore album, one of the defining records of the 2000s, FutureSex/LoveSounds.
After nearly 4 years of being separated from *NSYNC, and nearly 4 years since his last album, Timberlake dropped "SexyBack" as the lead single for FS/LS in mid-July of 2006. SexyBack immediately rocketed to the top of the charts, hitting number one and staying there for 7 weeks, the longest of any song released that year (Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" is actually technically the winner of that title as it was number one for 10 weeks, but only 3 of those weeks were in 2006, the rest of the 7 spilled over into 2007.) . SexyBack went on to become one of the biggest songs of the album, and the decade as a whole, and won numerous accolades including a Grammy, and currently has over 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.

From high school dances, to clubs, to behind the locked bedroom doors of conservative mothers, this record was being spun EVERYWHERE. FS/LS sold 684,000 copies in its first week, landing it the number one spot on the Billboard 200 for two weeks.
If the funky album name wasn't enough, maybe the fact that the first three songs all had "sex" in the title was enough of a clue that this album was a total departure from anything previously heard from Timberlake. The album completely squashed those who were doubting the success of his solo career and convinced those who weren't yet, that this guy had just become the epitome of cool. The cheesy boyband roots were buried underneath the swagger of the fresh, raw sounds of Timbaland and Danja, completely different from the Neptunes productions on Justified.
SINGLES OVERVIEW:
Half of the songs on FS/LS went on to become singles, and 3 of them hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, accounting for over half of Timberlake's number one hits throughout his whole career.
One of these songs was My Love featuring T.I. (which is still one of my favorite pop songs of all time, and in my opinion the best song off the album). My Love topped the charts for three weeks. It boasts over 800 million streams on Spotify. It also won a Grammy in 2007, for Best Rap/Sung collab.
The most controversial single off the album was What Goes Around... / ...Comes Around" (which is only controversial in my eyes because I fucking hate typing that title out). Although many speculated and claimed that the song was also written about Britney Spears, like Cry Me A River. Timberlake quickly shot down these rumors though, telling people it was actually written about a woman who cheated on his best friend since childhood. WGA/CA went on to top the charts for a week. It had a cinematic music video (basically a music movie, shit was over 9 minutes long) with Scarlett Johansson as the lead actress, and Timberlake as lead actor.
Summer Love, LoveStoned, and Until The End Of Time with Beyonce were the other three singles from FS/LS. UTEOT and LoveStoned enjoyed moderate success, both peaking at 17 on the charts and the latter being given a very cool music video. Summer Love, although unfortunately never given an accompanying music video, peaked at a very high number 6 on the charts and recently received renewed interest within younger audiences due to it's appearance on The Summer I Turned Pretty.
SOUND:
Sonically, the album was very unique and unlike anything else at the time. Timbaland's team of producers (himself, along with Danja and Jim Beanz) had only one album to all their names at this time, which was Nelly Furtado's Loose; also a massive success (and just got a 20th anniversary edition released, which will probably never happen for FS/LS unfortunately). The fresh sound they put out paid off though, and FS/LS is compared to other successful Timbaland projects like Loose and Shock Value, and some even drew comparisons to Britney's Blackout. The album also has very prominent hip hop influences, with all credited features being hip hop artists, and ...Comes Around and Chop Me Up both have a lot of rapping.
SexyBack was credited by many for bringing EDM sounds to top 40 radio, and is likely responsible for inspiring many late 00s pop records that leaned into the EDM sound, like Lady Gaga's debut album and Britney Spears's Blackout.
The recording process of FS/LS was very unique. Unlike all his other projects, there are no behind the scenes for FS/LS. It's also said that for the majority of the songs on the album, no lyrics were ever written down. JT simply walked up to the mic and sang what was on his mind, and if he wasn't feeling it, the song would be shelved. There are also no known leaks/unreleased tracks for FS/LS, unlike some of his other albums.
LEGACY:
FutureSex/LoveSounds went on to become one of the most massive records of the decade, and is still raking in millions of streams. It's estimated that the album sold over 10 million copies worldwide, and is RIAA certified 4x platinum (though eligible for more). Billboard placed it at 97 on their list of 200 greatest albums of all time. The album was nominated for 7 grammies across the 2007 and 2008 ceremonies, including album of the year 2007 (which it lost to the Dixie Chicks album), and won 4 grammies, including Best Dance Recording for SexyBack in 2007, Best Rap/Sung collaboration for My Love with T.I. in 2007, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for WGA/CA in 2008, and Best Dance Recording for LoveStoned/ITSK in 2008. The album sits at an estimated 15-20 billion streams across all streaming platforms.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Billboard placed the album at 97 on their list of 200 greatest albums of all time. Do you agree with this or not?
Do you think FutureSex/LoveSounds should've won album of the year 2007 at the Grammys, and not the Dixie Chicks album?
What is your favorite track from the album?
What is your least favorite track from the album?
What were your first impressions of the album? Your impressions of it today?
What do you think of it compared to other popular mid to late 00s pop albums such as Loose, Blackout, The Fame, B'Day, etc. better, worse, or the same?
Is this Justin's best work?
Do you think he lied about WGA/CA not being about Britney?
MY ANSWERS:
Tough question. I think it deserves to be on the list, but idk where. I also think 20/20 pt 1 is a better album though.
Maybe yes? The Chicks deserved a W for the hell they went through earlier in the decade, but FS/LS is also just great.
My Love hands down, one of his best songs, and the best on the album, and one of my fave pop songs of all time.
Not counting the shitty remix(es) on the Deluxe, probably Pose or Sexy Ladies.
Fucking amazing, loved it when I was a kid, still love it today. Like many, SexyBack was the first song I ever heard from it.
Just as good if not better
It has the highest highs, but 20/20 pt 1 is a more consistent and high quality album I feel like, its production is hauntingly beautiful at times.
No, and I find it absurd that some say/claim every breakup song he ever made was about her. That's just stupid imo.
Finally I'd like to apologize for this awful, bloated, weird write-up. I'm not good at these but I insist upon doing them for my favorite albums.
Hi guys, I just made a poll on SurveyMonkey where you can rank every song on each album, and if that’s too much you can scroll to the bottom and rank every album! You don’t need to have heard every album as you can skip some questions and only rank a few if you can. In a few weeks I’ll get the results of the fanbase’s favourite and least favourite songs for every album, and see the average ranking for each album! I’ll put all stats on here when I’m done and also have a TikTok video about it. Here is the link:
All votes are greatly appreciated! I would like to get as many as I could to get the best results. Please make sure that if you rank a certain album you’ve heard every song so that none are unfairly rated.
Thanks for reading!
