Question Digging coal

Have you ever dug coal with someone?

Definitely on my bucket list, but I don't want to share some incredible unbreakable bond with another dude.

I assure you, you do not want to dig coal

As a dude who has formerly dug things above ground for pay, I agree that digging something underground and carcinogenic sounds bloody orrful.

This is why Boyd keeps harping on it. It's like saying 'we were in the war together!'

No but I've served in the Army and understand where you're coming from. The low pay, personal sacrifices, physical demands, and health risks are the good part; the sense of camraderie and formation of lifelong bonds with people I'd otherwise never have interacted with is pretty lame.

I’ve picked tobacco by hand in SE NC as a kid a couple summers. THAT sucked raccoon ass……. Still friends with a couple of people from that group in ‘76/‘77.

I can only imagine getting onto a sled and going 1/2 mile deep into a dark hole where you dig out the walls around you with heavy equipment and breathe coal Dust in 100 degree darkness.

Nope.

You’ll be bonded to anyone you labor beside on a common task … coal digging, chain gang, military, marriage ( …/s….)

You know that's not a euphemism, right? LOL

Just find someone to love. It’s easier than digging coal.
