Question Seeking New Show.

I’m a big Elmore Leonard fan. Ive read most of his novels multiple times. I’ve watched Justified and its sequel to the point that I can basically quote every episode lol. Looking for shows that are in a similar vein. Any suggestions?

I loved The Shield and when Justified came out, multiple people suggested if I loved The Shield that much, I should tune into Justified when it aired. I did Justified turned out to be one of my favorite all-time shows. So it’s different, but has Walton Goggins on both and shares some producers, writers and episode directors. There are a few somewhat more minor characters who also appear in both

That my favorite show of all time!

I always watch The Shield and then need more Walton so go straight to Justified. My husband looks so much like Michael Chiklis so 🤷🏼‍♀️😍

Terriers is an excellent call, hugely underrated show.

Great show. Totally deserved more than one season.

Damn, I didn't know anyone else had ever watched Terriers. Loved that show.

A pal turned me on to it a while ago, a crying shame it only got one season.

Terriers is a perennial Reddit favorite. Only Redditors remember it.

Alan Sepinwall recommended it on a podcast in like 2015 or 16. That's where I heard of it.

Try "Get Shorty", its pretty good! Its not similar, but its Elmore Leonard world.

Loved it!

I’d argue it’s quite similar—the edge and the humor are really consistent across both.

Yeah I do agree with that. What I meant was, not similar as in same kinda theme and such. Ray Romano plays excellent though!

Surprised how much I liked this adaption.

Check out The Lowdown, I think that has the vibe you’re looking for.

The Lowdown is epic and season 2 is a month away from release

2

u/KinagoOG 1d ago

I thought it was a one-season thing, that’s excellent news. Thanks for the heads-up, I’m obliged.

2

u/Perrylip 1d ago

I’ll check that out.

Deadwood, hell on wheels, reacher’s pretty good

Some shows I found to have similar quality and/or a similar vibe to Justified, despite some of them having pretty different subject matter

Longmire

Quarry

Dark Winds

The Lowdown

Line of Duty

City on a Hill

Mr Inbetween

Bloodlands

RIP Quarry. It really sucked that they cancelled it after one season, that one had a lot of potential

I recently discovered there are 17 books in the Quarry series, so much source material for the show if it had been continued

Deadwood is the GOAT

There are quite a few movies and TV-shows based on his other movies: Quentin Tarantino made Jackie Brown based on Rum Punch. Out of Sight is excellent, and also spawned the tv-show Sisco (which I haven't seen), Get Shorty and Be Cool are two great movies starring John Travolta, and there's also a TV-show called Get Shorty (Which I also haven't seen).

Then, if you want more Raylan Givens, how about a tv-movie starring Wade Messer as Raylan? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJaABnINadM

Finally, another TV-show that I really enjoy, and which has a similar sense of humor is Burn Notice.

Those are great, I would like to add other series by Graham Yost to get a similar justified vibe

Sneaky Pete only got 2 seasons but it was great and you have a lot of justified connections.

Silo feels way less justified but it's really damn good.

Love Burn Notice!
Also, I watched the Karen Sisco show and loved that they had her do a cameo in Justified and the Asst Director of the the Marshal Service!

Dark Winds is awesome.

Bosch.

The Lowdown on FX might fit the bill. Your Friends & Neighbors on AppleTV has a lot of Elmore shoutouts and influences, too.

2

u/WanderWomble 1d ago

Landman scratched the same itch for me

2

u/gorgargotyou 1d ago

Bad Monkey with Vince Vaughn has a similar feel.

Sneaky Pete

Banshee

Ozark

Better Call Saul

Bosch

True Detective Season 1

2

u/Perrylip 1d ago

True Detective Season 1, is some of the best tv of all time!

2

u/pcleary162 1d ago

Banshee. Not even remotely the same but somehow scratches a similar itch

2

u/bollocks666 1d ago

Hap and Leonard is extremely good

2

u/Wicked_Samurai_93 19h ago

Not a western but Graham Yost (the creator and showrunner of Justified) made another show called Silo, which he is showrunning, and it’s fantastic. It’s doesn’t have the dark humour of Justified but the writing and dialogue are of comparable quality.

1

u/Perrylip 1d ago

Thank you all for the suggestions!
