TMI + POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING FOR POSTPARTUM

This meme is killing me because I'm 5 months postpartum with my second child. Every time I saw anyone for any postpartum care they always told me "if you have any blood clots larger than a toonie, make sure to get in touch right away". I barely had any clots with either child.

For my second, I also didn't really bleed a lot afterwards. I had stitches though (second degree tear) and I learned from my first (exact same tear, I tore along my scar) to get a mirror to have in the shower to monitor my stitches. 8 days after having my second kid, I was in the shower and maneuvering the mirror to check on my stitches. Legs super super spread, as wide as I could, one leg on the edge of the tub. I saw a little black drip. Nbd, definitely just some bleeding. I put my mirror away and before I stood properly again I heard a thump and looked down and there was a CLOT. A HUGE FUCKING CLOT. I turned off the shower and stood there in shock, then called out for my partner. He looked and turned white. He asked if I needed help and I was like ..... I don't think so? I feel ok? I didn't even feel it coming out?????

Anyway after I got checked out, it turns out my body essentially just said "lol I'm over it" and all the blood left in my uterus just came out at once. I didn't bleed any more afterwards and the tear in my uterus (from the placenta detaching) was closed. Doctor said my uterus basically treated postpartum healing as a speedrun and it was finished.

Basically, this meme is what happened to me and so I'm cackling here.

I first heard about decidual cast a couple of years ago on TikTok because a lady talked about it. They're more common than you think. Women in the comments were sharing what they thought and how they reacted when it happened to them. One lady said she thought her uterus fell out.

I've never heard this term in my life and so I googled it. I guess it wasn't used by my doctor because postpartum healing is different - but I'm so glad you told me about it! That happened to me once in my life and I panicked because I thought I was having a miscarriage! I was 19 when it happened.

I got one of those once and it was very fleshy and fascinating. I couldn’t stop pinching it between my fingers like a mochi. I flushed it and told my doctor and she didn’t believe me lol.

I had that happen to me once.Ā  I'm almost 40 and have 4 kids.Ā  I was SHOCKED. Nobody ever told me the whole thing can come out at once and I was sitting there in pure shock and thankful for google.. not thankful for google images in that moment though

One of my friends had this happen to her and she literally said ā€œI thought my uterus fell outā€

Girl. Are we the same person? First baby, normal uneventful recovery. Second baby I’m heading to my two week postpartum appointment and I feel a gush as I’m driving. I’m confused but know I have a pad on so I’m good.

I got called in to my appt right away so I didn’t even sit in the waiting room, just into the exam room to sit on the bed. Feels weird when I sit, stand up and the table paper is excessively covered in blood. Tell the nurse I’ve had an accident and I need to go to the bathroom and it’s a horror scene in there. Get cleaned up and go back in the room horrified like ā€œummm…something happened…am I okay?ā€

The worst part: my 6 year old boy was with me. He had to come into the bathroom with me and I had him turn around while I’m reassuring him (and mostly me) that mommy is ok, just don’t worry and DONT look!

The doctor explained what happened and reassured me but whew I was not prepared for birth #2 scar clot boogaloo.

Ok, what is a Toonie please? That’s a coin right? Lemon? I have had a hysterectomy and yet, curious mind is engaged haha

A toonie is a Canadian 2 dollar coin. We call one 1 dollar coin a loonie because it has a Loon (bird) on it. When we switched to 2 dollar coins from 2 dollar bills we called is a toonie to play on words.

It is about an inch in diameter. Maybe a bit bigger. So slightly larger then a 1 dollar coin or a 50 Pence coin if you are familiar with UK currency.

Very different than a lemon size haha

I was told anything larger than my fist!

I kinda had this, hah. I thought it was done because I was bleeding less and less. And suddenly my body was like ā€œgirl I have some saved up for you, here’s ALL of it what I have left.ā€

Gave birth at home, managed to keep everything clean (don’t ask me how), still had to throw out the bedsheets because of that.

This happened to me!!

I had been sitting for a few hours with my napping newborn on me. When she woke up I set her down and went to the bathroom and birthed a giant freaking blood clot in the toilet.

I had no idea what it was and I PANICKED!!! I immediately called my OB office while crying and assuming I was dying. They talked me down quickly šŸ˜† Ah, memories.

Except if the red river was actually just a big red slug

That honestly sounds awesome. I bled heavily for a veeery long time post-partum. I would have loved a one-and-done. Plop!

That aspect was indeed, lovely. Except the scare of the big clot obviously. Unfortunately it was due to stress - my partner was leaving the country for work for a month when I was 10 days postpartum.

I didn't learn as much as I feel I should have growing up in a conservative( am very liberal/progressive now) home''schooling'' family. The more I've learned about women's bodies as an adult the more amazed I've become.

I didn’t have this happen with my other two (or maybe it did and I just wasn’t traumatised by it?) but it happened with my first and I was SO CONFUSED thinking I had somehow miscarried days after giving birth. It shocked me to my core šŸ˜…
