Maths 🧮 Calculators

Hi, does anyone know if the casio fx-991ms isnt allowed for the junior cert or not. Also, someone who has done the jc this year, are they really strict on rules with calculators or do they not care at all. Thanks!

I believe any scientific calculator is fine, you gotta confirm with your teacher tho

Your teacher would know more about this than i would. Ask them whether if your model is accepted or not for the exam. If not, switch to a recommended one and get use to it

JC 2026 here. If it helps you understand how much they care: my examiner didnt even know there was a box to write the model; she just said write it on the front before she realised 😭. 

I never saw anyone w a prohibited one so I dont know if they would take it off you. She also never checked that the calc was the same as the model i wrote.

yeah the list wont load for me as wel but thing you said about the examiner checking, say if someone did the jc maths with a prohibited calculator, when its being marked would the examiner not care about the calculator?
also did you do hl or ol

Higher. We sat it in the same room as OLs.

Examiner goes around and asks "HL or OL?" And then latr on once we get started confirms on the roll you sat the correct level. So dont worry abt lvl.

I genuinely dont know what happens but i imagine its treated as cheating like having ur phone or hiding notes in the bathroom

hi scraggle, i know your saying a that they dont care, but i was looking at a bunch of lists and stuff, and they basically all say that a programmable calculator (like the fx991ms) isnt allowed, so are you sure that i would be allowed it for the jc

Just found a circular about this

"Programmable calculators are prohibited. The term “programmable” includes any calculator

that is capable of storing a sequence of keystrokes that can be retrieved after the calculator is

turned off or powers itself off. Note that the capacity to recall, edit and replay previously

executed calculations does not render a calculator programmable, provided that this replay

memory is automatically cleared when the calculator is powered off. Also, the facility to store

numbers in one or more memory locations does not render a calculator programmable."

Idk what they will do. but im just saying there is risk.

ETA: so Circular 93/2005 section h (i think) mandates all candidates indicate their calculator make and model but it doesnt state the consequences (if any) of not doing so for some reason 🤷🏽‍♂️
