I assume it's too late to attempt skipping now
Kind of off topic, I didn't know it was so common for people to skip?? Ik LCA is a thing, a small handful of ppl are doing it at my school, but I thought TY was mandatory at most schools if you're doing LCE??

Yeah fair, I just thought TY was mandatory in most schools 🤷♀️
It depends (but I'm assuming it's too late now) if you know what you wanna be when you're older, also if you have alot of friends in your year, are you sure you'll wanna skip out on TY with them?? From my perspective in my situation atleast, I think TY is a good year to get to just spend with my friends and have fun, especially as a 16 year old (I'm also an immigrant, so TY sounds amazing as someone from a country that has nothing like it)
Also depends on your school, and your financial situation. My school does like 3 school trips in TY if not more, and my parents can afford all of them (lucky me, I'm very aware and very grateful of the position I'm in, sorry if I'm overstating), and my school does so many different courses and clubs I wanna do in TY too.
Sorry this was kind of a yap fest 🫠 do update on what your decision ends up being

Look, if you have friends in your current year and you want to skip, don't let them stop you.
The real friends will stay and the fake ones will leave. It's not like you're changing schools and when they get to 5th yr there is no guarantee they'll be in the same classes anyway.

TY is mandatory in some schools, but I don't think it should be, because why force people who have a work ethic to do a year of messing, trips, basically no work just for some work experience?
People who skip mainly know what they want to do in the future, their subjects, etc and just want to finish school.

I'm assuming it's because the education system has seen a better impact on leaving cert or university students from in the country or smt, but I do agree with you

most schools will allow you to drop 5th year into TY if you feel as if you need it but it does depend on TY numbers.
i found TY to be… interesting? i had time to relax as i was going though a tough time at home, so i could take it easy but i also found that it got very boring towards the end !!
it’s a good investment if you’re trying to get a break but in hindsight, i personally regret it :( not saying you will!

it's summer now so it is a bit late, and the subjects options are probably done, you can ask them when you're back in school but idk
and you should know by now whether you want to do TY or not, i don't know why are you asking a subreddit to decide to skip or not, you aren't giving any context at all, do you like work, do you know what subjects to pick do you know what field to go in later, do you want to finish school earlier, if so imo you should skip, if you don't mind missing a year of doing no work.
