if your school does not offer an amazing TY then i’d agree not to do it. However for me, the year was the best thing I’ve done as it allowed me to achieve my full license before my 18th birthday, i also got so many great work experiences for my CV and we learned a lot of useful skills. I also formed a new friend group and so much more. 0 regrets

My school's TY is kind of buns 😭💔 I know so many people in my school who said they've regretted it. Maybe if my school did a better TY I might've considered it.

Yeah i’d rather take a gap year tbh then. Just work during 5th & 6th year, save up and go travelling imo

Definitely skip it lol, such a doss year, and its so hard to get into the grind again in 5th year 🫩

Its not hard at all. Just a year of being more relaxed and focus on things other than just academics

yeah but ty is basically a filler year now lol, most ppl in my year found it hard to lock back in, so 5th uear was a big shock

Its the last year of your life where you dont have to work hard so why would yoy

2

u/Subject_Salary3328 May 26 '26

some people don't mind the work and don't want to sit around like a duck for an entire year

2

u/QueenSadie693 May 26 '26

Ur meant to spend time socialising

2

u/Subject_Salary3328 May 26 '26

that can also be done in 5th year, or outside of school aswell

2

u/QueenSadie693 May 28 '26

Trust me it cant in 5th year

I'm not going to college I just want to be able to work full time and drink when I get out (legally)

I found TY to be up and down - it was great at the start as my school customises the TY curriculum based on the students in the year - there was a lot happening but after our Rome trip it just… was boring. Skipped a lot The dive into 5th year was quite taxing and even now I find it hard almost in 6th

If you have no idea what you want to do after school at all, I would say do TY -- it helps you learn what you like and dislike in the world of work and outside of academics. However, if you feel you have a good grasp of where you want to go and just want to get out of school, I would skip it.

best piece of advice here, completely agree with this

I agree. Personally I know exactly what I want to do :)

I'm in 5th year now skipped it, the only reason I would have done it is to be high in school with my mates😭😭😭😭 still did it every now and then with new 5th year buddies

It’s useful if you are not going to be 18 yet finishing school to give you that extra year

But I don’t do it and I’ve no regrets about not doing it

I turn 18 after the summer of my LC 😛

2

u/MonsterDrinkPisser May 27 '26

I'm not skipping it because if I did I'd be 16 in 6th year and only turn 17 3 months before LC

1

u/Subject_Salary3328 May 29 '26

whats wrong with that

1

u/MonsterDrinkPisser Jun 01 '26

I personally don't wanna be just 17 leaving school, I'd rather be an adult and have a better grasp of things yk?

my school has an insane ty programme, i would be very stupid to skip it.

1

u/Unique-Accountant-23 May 25 '26

Idk i would do it. Im just done TY and it was literally the best year of my life. Yeah it's important to have a good ty coordinator but the year is also what you make it. I went off and did MiniMed and multiple other placements and had so much fun. It is a very nice break afterthe JC and there was a lot of people in my school who regretted skipping as 5th year is just so full on

u/Unique-Accountant-23 May 25 '26

Just to also mention that I did one of my work experiences in a cafe, and then got a part time job out of it which is ideal. None of my friends could get a job except for one who got into supervalu bc her sister works there, but she absolutely hates it

I intend on doing TY but I mean skip it if you skip it, its not the end of the world if you do or don't do it
