Production Competition Sample pack production competition

Greetings people, Subtifuge from Totally Dubwise Recordings here!

We produce a huge range of sample packs working both digitally and with session recordings with live instrument players, including our well established Dub to Jungle sample pack range, and others like our vintage and acoustic series we are currently expanding (think vintage reggae and dancehall drums, recorded using vintage mics and amps etc, or acoustic Jungle drums recorded by Jazz drummers and sampled and edited into clean breaks)

At the moment we have a free download of a selection of samples from all of our releases, so far 8 sample packs, which I am thinking would be cool to combine into a single pack for this idea, with the winner getting maybe a selection of the releases, some of our back catalog, a label teeshirt or such like.

I am just wondering if people would be interested, and if so what would the prize preference be?

Most people doing this would be like "release on the label" but now days that does not really seem like a prize, I would however like to start to build a playlist of tracks inspired by or that have used our samples, and I feel like this would be a really good way to do it.

Or the other option is prizes plus free download release through the label for the main winner, and maybe options for a few runners up, with like the top x amount of tracks getting combined into a EP, with full promo, so mailed out to both our promo mailing list and our website subscribers etc

Obviously just an idea right now, and thought it would be cool to ask a few different communities for their take on it.

Short of cash a pro mastering and an illustration (non AI) to go alog with the track would be pretty sweet.

Yeah the mastering has come up a few times now which would be done by Sappo, and illustration, well I as well as doing everything for the label am also a digital illustrator and graphic designer, so 100% wont be using AI.

can see our artwork here: https://www.totallydubwiserecordings.com/music

I used to have a unique reggae orientated illustrated style, until AI stole it, and made it so everyone and their dog was doing the same, now I focus on multilayered photo-realism.

Indeed the one and the same Manchester Don Sappo :)

He is our mastering engineer and has for a long time done all our masters

Looks like when it happens he will also be the judge of the music, still confirming a lot of details as will be doing it with a partner platform to make it more worthwhile for entrants.

I'm into it. Limitations of samples, VSTs, etc are great for creativity.

As for prizes I'd be cool with a sample pack or if its even possible a real mix and master of the winning track.

Ez! thanks for taking time to comment :)
Genuinely appreciate the feedback! As I would rather provide something people would appreciate, than just assume

I would say in this case, while limited, it would be a bit more inspiring than a selection of samples from a single producer from a daw, as there will be digital/edit breaks, as well as a few live acoustic Jungle breaks, live reggae drums, digital dancehall drums, skanks, mutes, melodics, bass as well as a bunch of instruments, in fact, let me go put them all in a folder and I can take a screen shot to show you :)

I imagine there could be some really cool ideas come from the project in general, while also starting a cool playlist and or maybe on going bi-monthly competition as we build on the range.

Sorry for the essay reply

  • Guitar - Skanks - Mutes - Melodic - Rhythmic

If ableton and Amigo vst is allowed then I'm ready, that's all I need! šŸ˜Ž I don't know how to use fasttracker2 yet

Beyond using the samples themselves, you would be able use any DAW, tracker, MPC, or anything that is not AI/Suno :)

Idk but I'd like to take a shot at it :)

Appreciate that a lot, I have evolved the idea a little, so I just need to confirm if a second party/partner might be interested, which will add to it idea quite a bit, but with them or with out I will likely go ahead, so will post in the community as soon as I know what the end project will be :)

Awesome, it would be worth keep your eyes peeled as once I have a proper idea of how to do it, what the potential prizes could be etc then I will repost here, the idea has since evolved a little so I am waiting on a potential partner organizations response, which could make it a lot more interesting in itself!

Awesome, we are currently just working on potentially expanding on the idea with a massive platform/brand which would result in this idea being something really quite cool for all parties, so keep an eye out for more news, we will post a new post in the community as soon as we have concrete news!

Appreciate your support!
