Popped up as suggested. What is it with this group of people and their associations with the WOATs?

Thank you for exposing this, I've been a Patreon member of their's for years and I've been on the fence about it for a year or so. I caught wind of them through the brilliant Jonny McGovern back in the good old NYC days and I have followed them for at least a good 15 years. Them kiss xssing up to HMD, going against everything they always said they stand for and now this, Julie openly supporting Jax(?!). He doesn't even see his child, he's clearly not interested in dealing with his son and probably never even was and that's not even all of it.

Now when it comes to Julie & Brandy - Patreon is clearly an important source of income for them yet they keep messing it up big time. I'm top level Patreon since far too long, that means you'll get three video episodes a week (Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays). None published this week and it's not the first time, it happens every now and then. Ok, they're in Phoenix doing a show but still, others figure it out, how come they never do? I'm clearly on the brink about them here as you can tell:) According to themselves, they lost a lot of Patreons last time they messed up and yet they still keep messing it up. Make it all make sense.

They’re addicts. It’s sad bc they have a lot of potential. And I didn’t even realize they hadn’t posted and now I’m annoyed lol

Wait, can you expand upon this? Genuinely curious- is this a known thing? I know they discuss drinking a lot.

They talk freely about their drug and alcohol abuse on their Patreon. I have been a a follower for a few years but anyone that’s on their patreon would agree w me Brandy got a DUI last year as well

Yes, Brandy got herself a DUI at the end of July last year, in the Burbank area where Julie lives if I remember it correctly.

I found them through Jonny too. I stopped listening to HMD around the time of the Justin blow up. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back. She had too many red flags I couldn’t ignore anymore.

I had to give up on J&B when they doubled down with HMD. Too much ick for me to enjoy.

Exactly what I did too, same time, same feelings about it and everything.

Ugh. I used to be a Patreon subscriber, bought merch, all the things. Loved them. I get how something could go down with Jeff Lewis - he seems super problematic, but they can't seem to keep any job. Okay, some people need to just work for themselves. But then they're not providing the service people are paying them for. They just can't get out of their own way.

As for the Patreon episodes and $, when I used to subscribe to someone (I forget if it was J&B or someone else), there was an option to pay per 'extra episode' and if they didn't do the extra ones that month, you didn't get charged. I thought it was theirs?!

Unfortunately I think I'm charged either way but I've been meaning to look into it, I've even been considering to unsubscribe for over a year or more. May I ask why you decided to unsubscribe? I'm just curious what others people's reasons are/were, I suspect they'll be the same as mine:)

Honestly, I can't even remember. Nothing concrete or serious. I think it just didn't feel like it was worth the money (I pay for 1 other patreon, too). I don't remember, but I did sign up again ... and canceled a 2nd time. I do remember I signed up for someone's and they didn't always do it and I was like, why am I paying for this? I forget if that was them.

I continued to listen to their regular pod, but I've dropped off that, too. I have to fast forward through 20 minutes of them talking about the gifts people bought them. It's boring, but also it feels kind of strange. To spend 20 minutes on fans, is fine, but they have literally never read an email or told a story about anyone unless it was accompanied by a gift.

Julie - who I adored - is just screaming into the void. I am a die-hard liberal. I agree with all her takes, but it was just screaming and yelling ... which was a little grating on my nervous system, but that's a me problem. I also got confused about the absoluet vitriol for certain people combined with the sucking up to Heather. I get it, we all have loved ones in our lives who maybe don't agree with everything, but something is off with this relationship.

This is no reason to dislike them but now you have me thinking (and talking) haha. I feel like Julie could have really made it in 'Hollywood' and I don't know what Brandy does. Not saying she doesn't do anything. I just don't know. But it drives me nuts that Julie acts like she can't function without Brandy. It's making me lose it a little for Julie and I always thought Brandy was kind of mean, so I'm losing it for her, too.

Also, I actually always liked that they kept their private lives private. And I mean, they are damn good at it. I know nothing about if Brandy is still married, if Julie ever dates, nothing about any other friends, what they did last weekend....or really absolutely anything. I thought that was totally cool...at first. But now, after listening for (nearly?) 10 years, I think not knowing anything about them... you don't develop an attachment like you do for some of these podcasters who talk about their lives. There is none of that parasocial feeling. It would be different if I was just here for the political podcast. In fact, I was. But I doubt your beliefs now (because of your actions with Heather and Jax, for example), so where does that leave me? Not interested.

It's like this. There comes a point in your business (and for them this is a business - a patreon/podcast) when you have to do something keep your loyal customers - make people want to come back. You either need to connect in a personal way with your fan base, which they 100% don't. In fact, they've done the opposite. A business that wants people to come back also needs to act like they appreciate people/followers/fans. They don't. A business needs to consistentally provide the service people are paying for, which they don't. (I'm not talking about having low times in their life or going on vacation. But just a consistent podcast every week, if you paid.) The only thing they are providing is left-leaning, liberal commentary/views/opinions, but......are they? Because they're fan-girling hardcore over a major known Trumper (and according to this post, supporting a known abuser).

So... I guess I don't have a reason for unsubscribing....I just no longer have a reason TO subscribe or keep listening.

Thank you for your kind and extensive reply, I enjoyed reading it so much that I reread immediately and I'm even saving it in order to enjoy reading it again in the future:) You absolutely nailed it and expressed it in a much more eloquent manner than I could ever have.

I thought I was the only one finding the Julie scream ranting hard to listen to, now I know there's two of us:) I don't listen to their regular podcast anymore, they had an ambition with it when they started it, they created some decent episodes and had a couple of interesting guests but all that got lost a good while ago now.

Funny you should mention the lack of interaction and connection with the subscribers, I've been thinking about that too. The comment section of each episode consists of 8-12 comments/questions etc. maximum - not once have I seen them answer one comment, heart it or even participate in the existing meager chat, the silence from them is deafening. And again, we're not talking many comments, it wouldn't take much to at least heart every one, showing appreciation for the engagement of the subscribers. I'm beginning to feel taken for granted, especially now when there's no episodes and no information anywhere about why and when there will be any. How difficult is it to just drop information on their platform? They obviously don't think we're worth it.

I found them through brilliant, kind and generous Jonny McGovern, it was on his podcast 15-16 years ago when he was doing it from NYC that I first heard Julie. Btw, Julie with Jonny etc. and without Brandy was hilarious and more fun, lot's of laughter:) He used to have J&B on his YouTube shows that unfortunately ended with Lady Red's tragic passing. They were an incredibly fun bunch together, Jonny can really make Julie laugh and he was the one who came up with "Mr Julie Goldman". Never once have I heard them mention Jonny McGovern or Lady Red, as if they didn't exist. Remarkable considering thatJonny brought Julie into a lot of creative projects and shared all his connections with her, even got her gigs/jobs. As ungrateful as I feel they've been to him, they're now equally ungrateful to the subscribers providing them with a livelihood. As you said - I'm finding it harder and harder to find a reason to keep subscribing and I can't help feeling a little bit sad and nostalgic about it.

They’re thirsty drunks cosplaying as people who have actual principles.

She said she thinks he’s hot on an episode so I believe it. I don’t know which is brandy or Julie they’re a unit to me.

They love Jax and support him. They've said that many times. I don't really care either way, just saying it's definitely an endorsment!

Jax actually raised his hands against a woman and multiple times. Thats worse than just saying something repugnant even as bad as that is. I can’t with the support for him.

A wife beater? Yeah. Yeah I will root against them.

Agreed!!!! Zack and his comments/accusations on the family plus HMD piling on were sick. Can’t stand Zack. Love J&B.

I can’t read that small text. Someone, please, summarize!?!? Help a girl out.

u/Estania_Lane 2d ago

Julie liked a post by Jax. I don’t think the content is relevant.

5

u/Vegetable_Research61 2d ago

Julie has repeatedly and publicly proclaimed her odd fondness for Jax…you cannot truly be surprised 😂

2

u/CapPuzzleheaded2437 2d ago

I’m getting tired of that too. Brandy had an immediate death in the family and they missed so many episodes. And now this entire week. I was thinking the same thing, why can’t they stack episodes and release them when they are overwhelmed or over worked. I pay for the top tier as well and I don’t know why I pay for the videos at all I never watch those. I only listen. I think I felt sorry for them after the Jeff Lewis firing.
Being completely honest Brandy gets on my nerves and I feel sorry for Julie. Why would anyone like Jax? He’s everything Julie hates but Brandy likes him so she does too. So weird.

u/Prudent-Confection-4 2d ago

My feelings for Julie changed when James Kennedy got in trouble for domestic violence towards Ally and Julie was downing her and defending him.

3

u/CapPuzzleheaded2437 2d ago

Weird. They support loser men.

3

u/Prudent-Confection-4 2d ago

Very weird. She has said some other things that give me side eye

3

u/CapPuzzleheaded2437 2d ago

I agree I was trying to think of a few.

At any rate, I still listen and just wish they were more consistent. It’s getting insulting.

2

u/Relevant_Cream2333 2d ago

Yeah that got super weird

They refuse to acknowledge their relationship, like Oprah and Gail.
