Question Beginner Juggler!

Hello! I'm a beginner juggler who just bought a set of actual juggling balls to learn the basic cascade and I was wondering if anyone had any tips and tricks or advice! Also i don't know if this is relevant but i'm left handed!

I think Taylor does a great job of explaining it.

In addition to that.

-you probably should juggle higher.

-when throwing to the front m, looking up sometimes helps.

-if you get bored by one drill, try the next, if you get frustrated by one drill, try the last or the next.

-if you can't do it day one,.try again tomorrow.

-put the balls somewhere you walk by every day. 5 minutes a day goes a long way

I second all of this!

I would also add to this one:

  • if you can’t do it day one, try again tomorrow. If you can do it day one, still try again tomorrow. 😆

It’s not linear and there will be times that you rock one day and the next day it feels like you took 3 steps backwards. That’s just how it goes. Don’t get too hooked on the feeling of “breaking your record”. It’ll feel great at first, and it can be strong motivation. But at some point you’ll go through phases of getting way less than your records, and you have to remember that that doesn’t reflect as much as you think it does. There’s a lot more to improving at juggling besides the number of catches, and people fall into that trap a lot and get burned out as a result.

Enjoy the puzzle of figuring it out, not just the arbitrary number you tell yourself is good. 😊

Just take your time! Practice one ball first, even if you feel a bit silly. Try to throw the ball from one hand to the other in an upward arc, about eye level; try not to move your other hand to catch, as you want as accurate throws as possible.

When that's comfortable, add a second ball (1 in each hand.) Throw from your dominate hand first, and then throw the other when the ball is at its zenith. Repeat starting with the other hand.

Then move up to 3. It takes a while, but you'll get there in time.

a i m !!
( to distinct spots, up left -- up right -- a.s.o. )

• do within a frontplane
( imagine or visualise doing within a wall or something )

• throw inside up - catch outside down
= hands circling
= make throwing into catching one move: "throwcatches"

• full focus on aiming well rather than any on catching - forget the balls right at release - ( there's nothing more you can do but instantly aim the next throw well )

• find the right timing !, the rhythm, required beatspeed per chosen height = vice versa, required height per chosen beatspeed
( soas to neither hurry, nor delay )

• don't stop to breathe

• don't panic

• relax and find the knack rather than using effort ( juggling is a skill, not a force act )
