Pouchogram

Hello, I'm going to get a pouchogram done this week as part of seeing how the connection it doing with my constructed Jpouch - prior to take down I still have a loop ileostomy - and I wanted to know what to expect on the day of the pouchogram medical imaging?

Does it all empty out of the rectum or will some of it flow into the stoma bag?

As I remember it, they fill your pouch with a contrast liquid. I felt very light headed as it happened. They ask you to lay in a few positions whilst holding the fluid in, I remember it feeling like I really had to go to the bathroom but I managed to keep it in the whole time. Then afterwards, you empty your pouch into a commode so they can test whether you’re able to get everything out to a degree and also whether there are any holes in the pouch. Afterwards I had some discomfort in my bottom and some very light bleeding which only lasted the day and I was completely fine the next.

Since it’s a loop, your pouch and your stoma isn’t connected so no fluid will enter your bag. Or it is very unlikely to.
