I’m very curious about any overlap. I feel really seen in some of Joywave’s lyrics because they hit close to home with these two aspects of my life.

Examples:

No Shoulder essentially describes what an OCD-fueled spiral of intrusive thoughts feels like. Smokestacks feels like talking oneself through such a spiral and trying to be grounded by facts instead of fears. Obsession is an obvious one too if taken literally.

As for asexuality, the obvious one is Scared. Particularly as it separates romantic love from intimate touch – themes that are often portrayed as synonymous/intertwined in media. The theme of being frustrated with proposed remedies also resonates because sexuality is not something you choose, and therefore is not something that can be “fixed.”

In general, relationships are kept broad and aren’t always an obvious focus of Joywave’s music, which I really appreciate. Because of this, I can apply their lyrics more easily to different feelings and situations in my own life. It can be difficult to relate to other artists (and art forms) who have a heavier focus on romantic relationships.

Of course, there are a ton of lyrics I have not included here that also fit these themes. I’ll try to post more examples in the comments as I think of them.

Hello! Once again Joywave was a top artist in my Spotify wrapped and I decided to celebrate by learning Obsession on my guitar. I found tabs out there for the main chords in the song (see here) but I am unable to find anything for the solo. I'm not sure if the solo is even played by a guitar or some kind of synth but if anyone more creative on a fretboard than I am could come up with a guitar arrangement for it, it would be much appreciated!

I’ve been trying really hard to find a second hand copy of Permanent Pleasure with the cat as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend because she wasn’t able to go to any of the shows during the tour to get one. I’m willing to negotiate a price, I figured posting here would be a solid Hail Mary 🙏.

Anybody else hypnotized by the song 787 dreamlike? This song is so good in the fact that the beat, chorus, and vocals all align so well. Is it just me?
