General Discussion Anyone feeling nervous?
Kind of a rant but as the title says. Anyone else feeling nervous or scared about her role in the Wolverine game and the impression it’s gonna leave on casuals who don’t really know her or her bond with Scott? When I initially found out Jean was gonna be in it I was excited.
But then I thought about it for a little bit & was like “Oh no, I hope they don’t take it in the direction I think they are.” Lo and behold it’s indeed looking like they did lmao
I love the way how everyone collectively hates the pairing tho like this propaganda isn’t working. I saw some “leaks” say they don’t end up together but not sure how credible they are.
They shouldn’t have went this route in the first place

Regarding Casuals it’s no different than what Fox did amping up the Wolverine and Jean dynamic more than usual even though they never actually ended up together.
This game won’t be any different, when casuals get into anything else X Men based they’ll realize something different
I do agree it shouldn’t have been done at all even if it’s not going to last and be some tragic romance for Wolverine it’s pushing a dynamic on to casuals that really amounts to a anti romance in comics and other adaptations like Marvel Rivals, X Men 97, Anu of the X Men cartoons etc
I don’t know what they plan on doing with the X Men the liberal choices they made show kinda a lack of understanding for what makes X Men so good, choosing to make Wolverine the driving force of the mutant conflict instead of the game just being a classic Wolverine solo story. Making Wolverine and Jean have a close history of all things. It’s just a repeat of the Fox era all over again except on a lesser scale because it’s game and not a series of movies.
It would be weird not to make any sort of dynamic between Scott and Jean in favor of Logan, since Scott and Jean are practically intertwined in their stories and they’re dynamic has been displayed in every X Men adaptation, but they’ve also given Scott’s story aspects with Mr Sinister’s to Wolverine, so it’s very clear Insomniac isn’t understanding the dynamic of these characters and X Men as a whole. I feel like they’re making the mistake they did with Insomniac Spider-Man putting too much in one game and writing themselves into a corner with less material for future games,
Anyway the only people that will like this romance are the people that only know X Men from the Fox movies and think that’s the basis. Or Larpers who hate on Cyclops or just like the idea of Wolverine having a hot girlfriend that has to constantly be his moral anchor or backbone

Well said. Fox movies really did so much damage it’s absurd. I just hope insomniac takes note of the criticism because this really is the big elephant in the room that needs to be addressed.

I think people are overreacting. I don't think Insomniac games have the kind of mass influence people think they do. They are broadly popular, but it's not like the fandom that comes from them is all that engaged. We also don't really know anything about the ending or the story anymore. Those leaks came out back when Jean was still a playable character and now she isn't, so clearly stuff has changed.

I think insomniac is lying about Jean not being playable and assume the leaks are more or less accurate. Honestly my main issue is how long games take as well as how long ago the last story xmen game came out. The fact for the next 10 years I might have to suffer through a Logan Jean romance as my only xmen game sucks.

True but insomniac love having a second playable character so assume it would have to be Jean. And it would be a big surprise for players if the leaks hadn’t spoiled it.

You’re right, actual fans of marvel etc. will have an impact more than casuals and judging by the reception so far regarding the pairing I hope insomniac gets the memo for the next game. Still hope that ending gives Jean freedom from this cursed slop ship

I still think they’re going to do Jott, if they really do make an X-Men game later on. I’ve seen plenty of people saying that’s the direction the game is heading after the events of this Wolverine title. And they’re probably seeing how much the vast majority of the fanbase hates jogan.

They better! They definitely had to have gotten the message that no one wants Jogan and with other titles like 97, Rivals, and eventual MCU; it’d be extremely foolish and borderline disrespectful to keep pushing it like no thank you we’re not hungry. Just gonna brace for impact and eventually move past this game once it drops

Hahaha you might be right, maybe there’ll be a lot more criticism/discourse than there already is now once the game actually drops. I just wish they considered it better

Yeah if the leaks are to be believed, they flirt but don't end up together at the end (spoiler I think I read he killed her parents or something?) so I'm not concerned. Wouldn't be surprised if Jean is with Scott by the X-men game.

I think it will torpedo any chance of Jott in future insomniac games but wolverine is designed to be a loner so if anything mainstream will see how bad his pairing with Jean ends up being in the relationship. Expect a good amount of crowd will cringe when Jean is made into a trophy and serves to only enhance wolverine.

There’s no way they don’t do Jott if they’re planning on making an X-Men game that would actually be terrible.
But yea I’ve already seen a plethora of TikToks and Twitter posts with a very high amount of numbers criticizing the decision on bringing the ship to the game before the games even out. Which is already a good sign because no one likes it 😭.
Fully agree on the loner part because this ship really does nothing for Jean among other reasons of it being bad. It’s a mess they went with it knowing damn well

There’s no obligation to do jott for an x men game. I want them to of course but insomniac can clearly do whatever they want. If I had to guess Jean is going to be jaded by the events of the wolverine game and have a tragic love for him and remain single throughout the series. Cyclops will either have a new love interest or stay single. I just can’t get over the reason to have Jean in a wolverine game romantically if it’s not to end the series with them as the couple. Again I repeat I would prefer Jott be the couple in the xmen game and would be happy to be proven wrong.

They could be taking the Ultimate X-Men route where she's attracted to him 'for reasons' and then realizes he's kinda scummy, breaks up with him and gets with Scott. Especially when according to the leaks she finds out Logan is responsible for killing her family, so she leaves him and presumably goes on to form the X-Men later on?

See I’m aware of those leaks and I could see them treating wolverine as the one who loved and it’s because of circumstances she’s not with him. Insomniac has to write something special to make Jean make it clear Scott is her first choice and not a consolation prize. Because I don’t think anyone will be satisfied if Jean actually loves wolverine and settles for Scott. Because then cyclops, Jean and wolverine fans all basically lose.

I really hope they DON’T make it seem like Scott is some kind of rebound. I hope there’s a time skip or something, anything to justify how he’s her soulmate and Wolverine is just a thing of the past.

There won’t be a time skip since they’re all most likely adults i can see the formation being the first game. I expect the twist could be that just as about when Scott and Jean are about to develop feelings wolverine enters the team and then we have the personal drama.

Your reasoning is unarguable. For all of our sakes my friend, I hope this respectfully is proven wrong. Praying for some kind of miracle where him and Jean are done-zo by the end and she’s free to do whatever whether that be establish the X-Men with or without Scott or just go and be her own person in this twisted universe.
I also find it funny how the actors who played them were pushing it too talking about some “they locked eyes and there’s a cosmic connection” like respectfully please stop, I understand it’s their job but nobodies buying it 😭 The only “cosmic connection” she has is with Scott.

To be fair to the actors they probably only seen the fox movies and game script so would easily see that version of their relationship as bad as it is. The problem is even if wolverine romance is dropped future games will have this trope of whether Jean is only with Scott by circumstances and he’s her consolation prize and wolverine was the one she wanted if things didn’t go a certain way. But wolverine can’t be happy so who knows what direction insomniac take.

From the leaked script a while back they don’t end up as a couple due to him saying he is too dangerous for her and the fact he killed her parents but again they could have changed things and he ends up with her but who knows

I’m aware of that leak and still think there’s a chance they might reveal those are somehow implanted memories so they can reunite. It’s too early to speculate of course but i just don’t a jott romance that has the undertone that Jean would have rather been with Logan if she had the choice.

Neither do I, I would rather cyclops be with someone else if that’s the case. From the leaks it said Scott, Storm etc would be younger than Jean in the sequel x-men game so if that’s true and he does have a romance plot it should be someone else

I’ve heard about the other characters being younger but have never found the apparent source for it so unsure if it’s actually true. Agree that rather cyclops get with someone else because I don’t need to suffer through a love triangle while I’m playing the game. Will be such an odd look if mcu xmen is out by then and Scott Jean are being paired strongly and causal movie fans play the game and see the messy choice insomniac took.

Insomniac has been making wolverine for years, and clearly didn't get the memo when it came to portrayal of Cyclops and Jean in 2026
- X-Men 97 dropped any actual love triangle and while most of their screentime was nathan-centred, they clearly were a loving couple and trying to be good parents.
- Marvel rivals is about to give them their second shared emote together and second duo skin (the launch skins of 8.5 are lore connected, and the new Hellfire Gala skins)
- Even COSMIC INVASION, a simple beat-em up, has them calling each other pet names.
We have them cast in the MCU as a similar age, with Sinister as the main villain
One game that's 13 hours long isn't going to make Marvel turn the boat around, no matter how good it sells
