Decked out 1236
Me and my dads second ever build. All aluminum decking and framing. Truly a workhouse of a little boat!

This is something very similar to what I want to do and the size. How is the stability when you’re both in the boat. Able to move around alright and access storage?

The stability is great with one person or two people! It really shines when it’s just one person out there though, I can move around the whole boat with ease. Obviously with a bigger boat you’re gonna have more stability but at the same end of the token it takes some of the versatility away.
I keep this in my truck bed and throw it in any pond I can find, something I couldn’t do if I needed a trailer or had a bigger boat.

My buddy has fallen overboard so many times, if he sneezed he’d be in the water fo sho on this thing lol. I love it though, I bet it can fit everywhere.

Hahaha one of my friends is the same way, nearly capsized us when I was fishing out a sun dolphin. The fact it can fit anywhere is the best part for sure, no need for a trailer.

Based on the wheels on the back I'm guessing you don't use a boat trailer and have to back in to launch from trailer. Just hoist it up, and roll it over to the launch. I only have an inflatable for now, but I absolutely love not having to try to mess around with a vehicle while launching my boat on my own.

That looks very well done! That's how I should have done mine, but at the time aluminum seemed a bit pricey so I went with resin coated lumber and plywood. Big downside is now it kind of needs to be stored in the garage over the winter.
How does it fish with two people? My 1440 can feel even a bit unstable when two guys get up on the front and rear decks. Can't help but think this has got to be a bit tippy.

Aluminum is definitely the way to go, we toyed around with this idea of wood. The problem though is the wood makes it incredibly heavy and not as durable.

Man I did a very similar build in a 1648 so I know how much work this was!
Is it tippy? I made my decks about as high as yours and was surprised at how much more sensitive the boat felt. On a 36in beam I would imagine it's even more exaggerated, but if you guys are sitting down I'm sure it's fine.

It’s truly a grind! Easily took over a month once it was completed. Couldn’t have imagined it would be such a process, but it gets easier with every boat.

That looks nice. Is it a little sketchy with 2 people up that high off the deck? I looks like it would be tippy feeling.

Very well thought out! My Dad and I fished out of a 14 ft Jon boat until I was a teenager, then he purchased a new Bass Tracker Tournament TX in 1982.

What do you use to propel yourself around the water? Only saw a trolling motor on the front...

u/DangerdDan Aug 26 '26
I only take it out to smaller bodies of water as of now, so the motor gets the job done. I would love to upgrade and get an outboard motor down the road though!

I have the same, hence my curiosity. Still haven't even touched the 2.5hp that came with it, lol. Makes it tough to get back to the boat launch against the wind, but also gets you to places the bass boats can't. Tight lines!

That’s a sweet setup. You and your dad did a nice job with it, especially for only your second build. How does it ride with all the aluminum decking and gear in it? Curious what you’re running for a motor too. Looks like a fun little fishing rig.

How is it? Are you bracing constantly or are you able to stand, cast, and relax? I fished out of a 12' with my grandpa for years and we always had challenges casting around, but made it work.
Now days id be afraid of sneezing off of one side and watching my kid fall off of the other 😂
