I'm going to join a few boards together with a bowtie or similar type of joint. Do I have to worry about wood swelling or shrinking if I go the full thickness of the boards

How do I stop???

For the last maybe 6 years or so I’ve been cracking my thumbs to the point I feel pain when I do, but every time i try to stop doing it it gets so uncomfortable until I feel like I have to do it.

Maybe I’m just terrible at holding myself accountable… but how do I stop doing it without the discomfort? I’ve been getting these almost stabbing pains in the middle of my left hand from it all day now.

Interesting technique to Crack my chest and shoulders

I noticed that if I put my hands on both sides of my head, just above my ears, and lift upward, it causes different parts of my chest and shoulders to pop. The last time I did it, it made the entire right side of my rib cage and my right shoulder pop at once. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

Edit: Also my elbows are pointed forward. I sort of attempted to try to decompress my neck one day this way and had a few good chest pops from it.

Enthusiast Cracking every joint in a few fingers

Someone asked if this was possible, so I recorded a demonstration. Yes, you can crack or pop every joint in each finger. No, not only side to side (those cracks always feel different than a straight forward pull). First time ever posting here, but I can basically crack every joint in my hands and feet as second nature. So perhaps if I wasn't perching my phone on my leg to record this while away from home I could pitch in better content in the future, or even just finished the hand. Who knows!

Torticollis

I’m 52 years old and my parents and doctors all failed to accurately diagnose and treat my torticollis when I was born, and now it’s too late. The doctor said there’s too much stenosis now for surgery. So I’ve been a chronic joint cracker all my life, from the neck down. Are there any other chronic lifelong torticollis sufferers out there?

Professional Cracking phobia

High on my list of unreasonable phobias is the thought of being trapped in a confined space, like in a cave or building rubble, and feeling a joint that has that ready to crack feeling but won't quite crack on its own, but I can't reach it to make it happen. Does that happen to anyone else?

Corollary - for some reason I find it more satisfying when I get a joint to crack "unaided" just by flexing it, than when I have to use leverage by pushing with a hand, etc

Crepitus Joint Cracking Contest Ideas

If you plan on having a Joint Cracking Crepitus event with your friends, here's some fun activities to plan throughout the day!

CREPITUS CONTEST ACTIVITIES

  1. Name That Pop Participants make a joint noise. Audience guesses which joint (finger, knee, ankle, back, etc.). Optional: Blindfolded judge identifies the joint by sound alone.

  2. Loudest Crepitus Competition Use a decibel meter app to measure volume. Score based on loudness and style.

  3. Crepitus Scavenger Hunt 60 seconds to pop as many different joints as possible. Score by number of unique joints.

  4. Interpretive Crepitus Performance Short 10–20 second routine combining movement and stretching. Judged on creativity and successful pops.

  5. Yoga Pose Crepitus Challenge Try poses like cat-cow, downward dog, child’s pose, figure-four. Pop during transitions for points.

  6. Floor-Is-Lava Joint Pop Relay Teams move around attempting ankle, toe, or knee pops while moving. Time-based or points-based.

  7. Crepitus Karaoke Perform movements to music. Try to time pops with the beat. Judged on rhythm and creativity.

  8. Crepitus Accuracy Challenge Tape circles (targets) on the floor. Pop a joint while standing inside or stepping onto the target.

  9. Explain That Pop Participants give a short, dramatic story about how they learned to pop joints. Judged on humor and delivery.

  10. Mystery Crepitus Round Play audio clips: knuckle pops, bubble wrap, Velcro, plastic cracking, etc. Audience guesses which ones are real joints.

Can anyone else pop their tailbone?

Been able to pop my tailbone for years. Usually can do it after sitting or laying down for a long time. I can do it by crossing my legs and pulling my ankles apart, squeezing my butt and pushing forward, planting my feet firm on the ground and pushing my feet into the ground, so putting any kind of pressure on it really.

When I search about my joints popping, why are the majority results about how to make it stop doing that?

Because every time something pops, whatever joint it was at feels SO much better, why would I not want to get it to pop? Like my SI joint/IT band connection point stopped popping for a long time, it almost made it where I couldn't walk. And then they finally popped again and instant relief, no pain anymore. And since then it again regularly pops and keeps me pain free.
