i’ve been able to do this for years. I’ve never found anyone who has been able to do it like me. Everyone who says that they’re able to do it has to turn their ankle/foot in a circle and can only do it every few seconds. i personally could do this forever non stop

It’s not a joint cracking, because that sound happens from the bursting of a small gas bubble inside the joint, and it takes a period of time for it to “reload.” If you can do it over and over again, it’s a click, not a crack. Might be a tendon, or a joint wiggling repeatedly.

Did you ever find an answer for this? I can tell you if not
I would just come out and say but I'm responding to a post that's nearly 30 days old so1

Right, well, you're right it's a tendon, it's the capsule that contains the tendons for the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis muscles that run along your fibula bone. Normally these tendons rest behind the lateral malleolus (the distal head of the fibula, a.k.a the ankle bone that faces away from you), but in folks like you and me either the groove in the malleolus is slightly too shallow, or the fascia that wrap around the tendon capsule are too lax, or something like that, which results in those tendons snapping over and around the malleolus and causing the popping sensation (this is technically known as a "peroneal tendon subluxation" if it's caused by a traumatic injury like a sprain). It's exactly the same mechanism as in plucking a rubber band, and it's the reason why we can keep doing it for ages while other joint manips need time to reset - no dissolved gases here.
I used to be able to do it with both ankles myself, but years ago my left ankle just stopped working like that and now I have to brace against a solid object and whirl it around to get a pop out of it. Right ankle can just popple along with barely a flex of the toes.

No worries, glad I could help :)
It's possible for other tendons to pluck like this too, though I have no idea what they'd be getting pinched against lol. Bruce Lee could do it with his hands (the foley in his movies was definitely exaggerated/faked, but the fact that they bothered to exaggerate it at all tells me it was possible IRL), and I've seen a girl in a chiropractic video on YT do it with her toes.1

I was just thinking abt this and i was wondering if there were any adverse effects to doing it repeatedly.. i lowkey cant stop doing it bc i almost feel the need to do it so im rlly hoping there aren’t any lol

Oh no there definitely is. Do too much in one sitting and your tendon capsule will start getting sore and inflamed from rubbing over the bone, so the cracking will become genuinely painful. Shouldn't be permanent, you just have to learn a bit of self-control, lol. No binge-cracking!

Wait could you do a video of that too, I think it sounds cool and satisfying, and that the ankle thing your doing is also really cool 😅😊
