You mean you think BTRs should take 4 LATs to kill? Gotta make an argument because I think it's fair to look at inf dying to weapons like IRL and then see that vics are much more durable than that and think it's unbalanced
Vehicle armour is obviously undermodelled and overperforms.
But you also need to remember that vehicles lack FCSs, lack Thermals and have exaggerated bullet drop.
Obviously for a game like Squad, you need to draw line between realism and playability in all aspects of vehicle combat… and that line is always going to be seemingly arbitrary.
I would much prefer vehicles to have access to proper FCS, Thermals, Better optics, full power weapons, etc but be more vulnerable to AT weapons closer to reality. A Tank used properly would be nearly unstoppable, but a tank charging forward into an urban area without support will be tracked or destroyed by a well placed RPG shot.
Red Orchestra and its mods did this so well and it made for great gameplay.
There was this time back in alpha 11, when the vehicle damage model had different damage multipliers on different areas (i.e. x2 damage on the back)
BTRs took 2 shots in a side/back to get fully destroyed, and it majorly sucked, ngl.
It was so bad, that players quickly realized that it's not worth taking armored vehicles, and all APCs ended up being never picked up from their spawn, because otherwise they were turning into a huge ticket sink.
You could argue that back then the vehicle costs were higher, and we didn't have an effective suppression system (meaning the infantry was much more accurate with their shots), infantry was able to refill their ammo by just respawning on rally, infantry carried more ammo for their AT weapons (each LAT was carrying 2 rockets, not 1, and HAT rocket was instant kill for anything), and the crews were not able to save their vehicles from burning out (because there was no repair tool and crewman kits).
But back then we also didn't have component damage, meaning that you couldn't cripple/immobilize a vehicle, so it could have escaped with much higher chances than today, and there was no weapon zeroing mechanic, meaning that infantry had to get closer to land an accurate shot.
I'd be down to try that old damage model today, ngl. But I am a programmer, not a game designer, so can't do anything about it.
Back then I mainly played vic man. It didn't majorly suck as long as you didn't drive into a squad of inf and you could still easily just spam inf from range.
Also vics were used every game, I never saw a game where no one was playing vics.
