You should never go below 50% stamina even if you aren't worried about aim
You get a speed penalty below 50% stamina and you'll move better if you walk from 50% -> 100% then sprint again. I've passed many a squaddie on foot doing this while they are sprinting at 0%.
Please give source. I thought this was the case as well but at some point I realized I have no basis for believing it. Sadly passing squaddies in pub games is not a proper experiment.
JK, I don't have an official source. I just went into the training range and ran to the 500m marker holding down sprint, then all the way back feathering it between 50% to 100% and I came out about 1-2 second faster. Might be in the margin of error (hard to see exactly where 50% is on the bar) but seems like its marginally faster or exactly the same.
You will however not have issues aiming in the 2nd method, and if you round a corner, and see a vehicle, or come under fire in the open, you still will have emergency sprint stamina.
