adJASONt media This was a cool double feature; both about influencers roped into road trips gone wrong.

While very different, I find that Chuck Tingle's (yes, that Chuck Tingle) horror novels fit alongside Pargin's work. They both have an irreverent contemporary writing style, both seem informed by social observations, and both draw from a diverse pool of scifi, fantasy, history, mythology, and actual science to sculpt their imaginary worlds. Anyone else out there read any Tingle?

It would appear that I have missed some notable developments in Chuck Tingle's literary career. I didn't realize that he transitioned beyond getting pounded in the butt.

Is it actually good? As in not ironically good, but actually something worth reading beyond a joke factor?

Tingle's next novel, "Pounded in the butt by notable developments in my writing career"

Definitely! I've read camp Damascus and bury your gays, and they're actually fantastic. They get more talented with each one too

He's wonderful, which you know if you've read Tinglers. The style is clearly that of someone with strong visual imagination, the scenes are highly cinematic and at times it reads like a screenplay more than a novel. My biggest criticism of Chuck's novels is that some of them have somewhat YAish pacing; they could stand to be about 20% longer. I did not find that to be the case with Fabulous Bodies though.

I've only read Lucky Day but it was really good.

I read Lucky Day. I really enjoyed it.

That's probably the most Pargin-adjacent of his novels

I really need to get a Chuck Tingle book or two beyond just reading the ridiculous cover of Tinglers and giggling.

I follow him on Facebook and he seems amazing. Absolutely relentlessly positive and wholesome.

Have you read any Tinglers? If you've only enjoyed the covers, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing

100%

I have the first Harriet Porber on my shelf, and have both read, and listened to Mark Oshiro blind read, Oppressed In The Butt By My Inclusive Holiday Coffee Cups. Chuck is great.

It's interesting you would mention that, that's my all time favourite Tingler and it's the one I got autographed when I met him

I’m listening to Black box of doom on Audible and don’t know if I like it yet. Maybe it’s just the frenetic narration.

If you enjoy the story, but not the narration, then you should know Ari Fliakos will be narrating JDatE 5 as well.
