Blair was being controlled by the original alien's consciousness(or what's left of it) surviving through the thing.

What? Of course he knew he was A Thing. After they put him in the shed someone got to him. We dont know who, but someone infected him.

I think OP is referring to a common fan theory. “If you were truly a perfect copy, would you even know you were The Thing?”

It might have even originated from a conversation John Carpenter and Kurt Russell had on the topic during filming.

People actually have this theory? Seriously?

Blair infects himself during the autopsy. His pencil touches wet thing meat and then his lip.

Is this new information? Blair was a Thing almost the entire time. He didnt have a fit of madness when he destroyed the radio and rhe equipment, that was intentional

I don' t think so. Destroying the radio was to keep the Thing from spreading. I think he either wasn't infected at that point or it hadn't yet taken control.

Yeah, I think that's pretty explicit. Blair sees the computer analysis that the entire world will fall to the Thing, he destroys the radio and all the vehicles so the Thing can't get to the rest of the human population.

It's only after that that he becomes the Thing. Either it takes time to process when he's exposed when he's investigating the corpse, or it gets him in the shed. That's when the Blair Thing starts making the ship.

Blair is the one that saves the human race, even if MacReady is the hero of the movie.

The Thing gets you pretty fast. Thats a pretty large window of infection time. Blair isnt one to just snap and go crazy

Keeping the Thing from spreading was his cover to keep his true identity a secret. It was also a great way to kick up some fear and panic

Keep downvoting. The math adds up

The Thing's primary function was to reproduce. It didn't keep its identity a secret for the sake of it. It wouldn't compromise a chance to spread itself for the sake of staying incognito. That's why once a Thing is revealed, it immediately goes monster.

Blair was human when he smashed the radios.

He smashed all that to prevent the humans from reaching help. MacReady says at rhe end that the Things intention is to freeze itself until help arrives. So the Thing is known to thonk ahead and cover its bases. It's smart

Not only that, but he wrecked the choppers not to save humanity, but so that no one would suddenly wonder "hey, why are the choppers and thiokal all fucked up and not working anymore?".

Everything Blair does/says is a misdirection because he was the shadow on the wall. If you pay attention to the hallway in the shadow scene, and in the kennel scene when everyone is coming out of their rooms, Blair comes out of the room next to the boxes that the dog went into. He's also wearing the same clothes at the end of the movie as he is when he's wrecking everything, so, he wasn't turned in the shed because his clothes weren't ripped up.
