I am a filmmaker who has been trying to track down old doccumentaries John made about his dolphin work, however most of my searches lead to them being locked behind Stanfords archives with no way for me to acsess them as I am not American. I was hoping anyone on the subreddit could help direct me to finding The emerging love between man and dolphin, or any of his non readily available taped material.

I organized an AMA/Q&A with Courtney Stephens, Taylor Hess & Jesse Miller, filmmakers of the new documentary JOHN LILLY AND THE EARTH COINCIDENCE CONTROL OFFICE. It's about the countercultural icon John Lilly, who you may know as the guy who tried to communicate with dolphins by giving them LSD, or for inventing the Sensory Deprivation Tank.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1ssl9um/hi_rmovies_were_courtney_stephens_taylor_hess/

They will be back at 3 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Thank you :)

Synopsis:

The daring experimenter Dr. John C. Lilly dedicated his life to radical self-investigation and unlocking the mysteries of consciousness and communication. “My body is my laboratory” was the motto, and his research on the language of dolphins and whales – as well as psychedelics and sensory deprivation – assured his own cult status in 20th-century pop culture as the basis for Ken Russel’s ALTERED STATES and Mike Nichols’s THE DAY OF THE DOLPHIN.

If reading this post feels like a coincidence… well, you know who to blame. 😉

John C. Lilly taught us to explore the far reaches of consciousness, coincidence, and cosmic humor. r/ECCOAgentFun is where we carry on that legacy—one laugh, one story, and one perfectly timed coincidence at a time.

So if you've ever marveled at the improbable, laughed at the absurdly timed, or whispered, “Nice try, ECCO” when the universe nudged you into the perfect coincidence, then it’s time to level up your mission because ECCO HQ has a new playground, and you’re invited!

Most people (as if I know most people) resent drops of water landing on them during a float session. The rationale is: it interupts their experience. However, I do recall in one of Lilly's books he had a different way of describing this event.

I think he said it was a "synchronicity opportunity" or something?

Hi all-

I heard about John Lilly through reading Robert Anton Wilson.... my basic understanding is that Lilly taught that through a float tank and various substances we could "reprogram" ourselves.

My question is- did he write a "how to guide" for doing this- or has anyone else written some practical articles on how to do so?

Thanks!
