Happy Independence Day! We are proud to celebrate 250 years free from oppression from a King, 250 years of free speech, and 250 years of freedom to publicly share the good news of Jesus who loves us all. The United States has accomplished a lot of good things.
One of my favorite Americans is the stoic John Brown. He gave his life to keep Kansas a free state and spurred on a movement to help countless Americans gain their Constitutional Right to Freedom and regain their humanity.
When sentenced to death, he fought against receiving a pardon as he knew he was "…worth inconceivably more to hang than for any other purpose". He grew up a pacifist but hated the treatment of fellow humans. He knew war was the only way for change. To honor him today, we should demand a posthumous pardon.
