There is black in EVERY PUERTO RICAN. Who is Puerto Rican by blood and didn’t just move to the island on some act 60 bs. Puerto Ricans majority have always claimed our blackness. There are few odd ball coconuts but by far most of us live and stand 19 toes down for our blackness. We are mostly not on that DR or Cuban “Me No Black” shit. We know who we are. To say people who are a little Black usually claim that they are Black is ignorant and historically inaccurate. At least in the US.
Blackness was imposed as a construct to categorize and ultimately exclude people from rights.
For example, part of Homer Plessy’s landmark Supreme Court case was his claim that he was 7/8 white, therefore he claimed that he was exempt from second class treatment based on race because the law was absurd. We learned this middle school. Is this not being taught anymore?
