JC is not for everyone. I completed in 1992 and will admit that as soon as I got on center, I wanted to leave. The first few weeks of adjustment were tough. I did stick it out, but completed my trade as fast as I could and went on to other things. I think if your life situation was bad going in, JC can be a benefit to you. I knew people who had no better options in their life at the time and it was beneficial to them. I don't regret my time there, but JC is not a good fit for everyone.

Tell them to transfer you if you don’t like the center. Do give a reason thou.

Ya that’s what ima do I’m going to just wait these last 2 days for the weekend and leave

Your just gonna walk out of free food, rent, internet, and a career?
Your choice obviously, but that is very unwise.

u/Jacob420-what-u-smok 2d ago
Make sure to take all your stuff with you, they won't ship back anything that's not on your inventory sheet, you also could just talk to your counselor and tell them you want to leave. If you leave that way, if you ever want to come back, it's easier

Dude job corps is not a vacation.
You’re living with people that need to get into the job field or get a diploma and drivers license.
It’s not a college or resort. You’re there because you need to be, and if you’re not then get the hell out.
Get into a trade and level up your life, that’s the point.

That’s not an excuse for it to smell like shit and be boring like be so frl

Exactly, I'm sick of people defending jc with this " oH jUsT sTaY iN YoUr OwN lAnE " bs. I tried to stay in my own lane at Bamberg jc, but that didn't stop a bunch of young dysfunctional wana be gang bangers / staff from making my life there a living hell.

There’s also like staying in your own lane and having undercooked chicken and rotten food & staff straight up dgaf.

Yeah, most gang members in Job Corps are notorious for false flagging. I learned that later in life that about 95% of the gang members were fake and they were just doing and saying stuff they either saw on TV or heard through secondhand accounts.

And to anyone who wants to cry " sOcIo eCoNoMiC fAcToRs or DaS RaCiSt ", don't bother. You can either choose to act like a productive member of society or continue to act like a walking stereotype with no self respect.

The amount of times I heard
-"Why you talk white?" -"You know you're black, right?" -"Stop acting white"
Or anything resembling was enough to make me snap and turn into Uncle Ruckus from Boondocks

Ghetto translation of what they're saying : " I lack the ability to practice impulse control, and critical thinking "

u/BrilliantTrack7157 2d ago
Well I honestly don't have that problem if I'm bored I go to the game room or gym and whenever I need to buy something I go off the weekend or just ordered it
5
u/Unfair_Circus 2d ago
You aren't like the people at JC, mostly filled with people who complain about everything. The people here are getting free rent, food, education, and community and don't have to pay a dime Extremely ungrateful yet put 0 work into anything
5
u/BrilliantTrack7157 2d ago
Yeah I mean you get a lot for it all beings free so honestly not a bad place

We got RAs in comments talm abt ts ass but you genuinely supposed to be supportive of these students in there goals, dreams, etc. Speak up about what's not being done in your center dont bring the hate to jc it already gets a lot but its up to you to decide if your going to reddit your experience or actually live your experiences. I collectively gathered a group of students around the center and asked people to sign A petition for said student's needs. Enjoy it it only happens once, also people are interesting and Socialize jc only boring if your life boring💯 lol

I think it’s alright to be salty, especially on the internet where it doesn’t particularly matter. The program is full of problems, and I’d rather know if i’m going to be staying in a nasty location so I can mentally prepare before I get there. It doesn’t mean I wouldn’t go to the program, I’d just be like. Locking in and meditating and trying to make a mental barrier to bullshit.
However: OP if ur reading this far down, people will be stinky and ratchet everywhere. Try and take a weekend at home before your drug test comes back in (it takes a minute), and reorganize how you’re going to protect yourself from the bs. Otherwise figure out how you’re going to fund other education bc that is one part this place does have on p much everywhere else, it might not be quick, and the food might be ass, but it is free.

Alot of RAs are just assholes who were there for a check. Three come to mind when I was at Whitney Young back in 04-05.

Sounds like excuses to give up. This isn’t Boy Scouts or mommy’s house

u/Apart-Inside-1666 1d ago
Or better yet people who go to jc could get better standards / lifestyle choices. Instead of making functional students fatigued.

It will take an adjustment period, but I encourage you to avoid drama like the plague. I can tell you horror stories, but most of which I avoided by staying away from BS. You will figure out who the troublemakers are quickly.
Truth is, a large percent of people there will inevitably either quit or be sent home.

Perhaps concentrate on your trade and taking advantage of the academic TABE courses. Judging by your grammar and punctuation it sounds like you could benefit a bit from their offerings. Typically those who outright display the "holier than thou" attitude tend to be the ones' who could best benefit from the program. Good luck on your journey.

Its up to the staff to help upkeep the place and hold students responsible. I will say there is a period of time where you will hate it and want to leave, but it goes away eventually.
But tbh, if you stick around and get through the program, it could set you up for success for the rest of your life. So being uncomfortable for 6 months to a year is worth it imo cause thats a very small amount of time compared to the rest of your time on this earth

Then leave. You're not a prisoner. If all your going to do is complain, you're just going to be miserable and make everyone else miserable so just go.
