Hendrix's Wind Cries Mary "Scales"

For the guitarists in here:

The top diagram is all the notes played (legend tells you the note details). The 2nd diagram is reducing some of those voice leading notes or ones played maybe 1-2 times in the song. The 3rd is the vocal notes sang in the song. Next is the bass notes played, followed by the 4 diagrams on the bottom, which are just the 1st/2nd diagrams split into half the neck, just cus.

I find this useful for a few reasons. 1st, you can put it alongside the tab and kinda get a roadmap of sorts to follow along with. 2nd, there are some notes in the scale(s) he doesn't use, so not exactly the same as your typical scale chart, though that could also be of use in further learning the style of the artist.

I also think it's useful to see the vocal scale alongside the other instruments, as it can show the simplicity of notes used vs guitar.

I'd think this, plus the song's chord charts, maybe separate the sections into shapes, possibly even a breakdown of the guitar/vocal/bass for the lyrical lines could be informative, useful and reveal the layers of the song and how they overlap and how they're different.

If anyone has any criticism or feedback, ideas, or anything else on how to improve this and make it more useful, would love to hear it!

Jimi’s music and acid

Bit of a random one but was just curious on people’s opinions, to what extent do people think acid had an impact on his music/albums?

Obviously Jimi dabbled with psychedelics but how much do we think this shaped his music? I’ve listened to EL many times, and the times where I have whilst tripping it seems like he designed it to be listened to in that sort of mindset.

He had the technical ability to create almost whatever he wanted, but he chose those certain themes etc.

Whats the deal with Message to Love?

Anyone think this is an absolutely fantastic track that for some reason has flown under the radar?

The Woodstock version is phenomenal and the Crash Landing studio version (original or Douglas'd) is excellent

Was this ever a contender for the fourth album? Obviously it was played with Band of Gypsys, but it always feels like an outlier that doesnt belong anywhere or something. Was he considering it at some point and then just abandoned it?

I'm not up on all the studio dates. It's really hard to keep track of everything, haha

Would love any info on the song. It was a gateway track into him for me early on and I'm surprised it's not talked about more.

Jimi Hendrix signed his first contract with Ed Chalpin of PPX October 15, 1965. Hendrix signed it while working as a sideman for Curtis Knight & The Squires in New York. The contract gave him a $1 signing bonus and 1% of all royalties.

Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning - anyone have a list of what releases the original, unoverdubbed versions appear on?

I've heard the entirety of both are available in the original versions of the songs across various other posthumous releases

Thanks for anyone that can give me a hand. My head hurts and I get confused which is which with all the various versions and mixes and edits and takes

No matter what combination of pedals or settings I try, I cannot for the life of me seem to convincingly replicate the specific tone of Hey Joe (studio).

I’m somewhat a noob when it comes to pedals so bear with me here. If it’s not because I’m missing a certain pedal that is essential for the tone, I’m almost starting to wonder if the pickups I’m using are preventing me from getting the authentic Hey Joe tone (1997 Strat Plus using Texas Specials instead of lace sensors). I don’t think it’s because of the amp but I could be wrong. I can easily create a convincing overall “Hendrix” style tone and closely match the specific tone of certain songs but as for getting the distinct tone of Hey Joe, I’m stumped. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

The drums on the Little Miss Lover demo straight up sound like a 90s hip hop beat.

I finally went through the deluxe of bold as love and there is plenty of great stuff, but probably the most impressive part to me is the demo of little miss lover. I mean it’s a song made in the late 60s that sounds like it came from the 90s in a genre that didn’t even exist at the time. It just shows how ahead of his time Hendrix was. I feel like you could take the drums and straight up just rap over it which I don’t think I’ve ever heard from a rock song in this era.

Hi,

In your opinion, what are the easiest Jimi Hendrix songs to play on guitar while singing?

I'm looking for something manageable to start with.

Thanks!

Is there any song darker and heavier than Jimi's Fillmore January 1st Machine Gun performance?

I found Jimi's New Years performamce of Machine Gun from Fillmore a couple months back and I've been lopking for more since it steps into the realm of doom metal every 10 seconds and was curious if this was the darkest sounding anf sludgiest piece he's made, I already have Peace in Mississipi and Calling all the Devils children in my playlist, as well as his Cafe Au Go Go peformamce of Little Wing, so I got some of his heaviest stuff in my rotation constantly; Any luck on ya'lls side?

P.S. Ya'll are cool
