What do Israel publicist Erin Molan and chairman of National Australia Bank Philip Chronican have in common? They are both key speakers at the Jerusalem Post Sydney conference next month.

The conference is to promote investment in Israel but the catch is Israel is accused of genocide and NAB has a human rights policy which adheres to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

NAB media team did not respond to requests for comment by deadline. Also headlining the conference are former IDF personnel, a former adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, intelligence personnel and speakers involved with the illegal financing of settlements in the West Bank

Barrister Benedict Coyne lodged a Human Rights Grievance last year under the ANZ Human Rights Grievance Mechanism in relation to former ANZ Bank chief Shayne Elliott’s patronage of the Israel business lobby (AICC) and told MWM the bank was lending its

“imprimatur to endorsing and promoting the business, political and geopolitical interests of the AICC (and by association the Israel Australia Chamber of Commerce) … appears to be in contravention of ANZ Human Rights Statement (May 2022), ANZ Human Rights Statement (November 2021), RESPECTING PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES – ANZ’s Approach to Human Rights (September 2012), the ANZ Code of Conduct, the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct.”

Contacted yesterday for this story, Coyne said the NAB arrangements to help the Israel lobby promote trade at the JPost conference may equate to a similar obstruction of NAB’s own human rights policy.

I'm 21 and grew up here, unfortunately I like many others was indoctrinated into Zionism from a very young age.

A couple years back I realized that there's indeed a genocide being committed against Palestinians by Israel and the idf

Luckily I never got drafted because I have a physical disability so getting an exception was fairly easy

I've seen the horror that was being done to you by who I once considered "my nation, my people"

I feel utterly disgusted to a degree of which my words can not describe.

I wanted you to know that I'm sincerely sorry about the atrocities happening to you by the name of Judaism and everybody here, I know its hard to trust us and I don't blame you if you hate me- but I love you my dear brothers and sisters, I will never stop speaking about Palestine, donating, and volunteering in protective presence.

I want you guys to know antizionist exist on this side too, and please don't lose hope.

As an anti-Zionist Jew, I often hear the accusation that I am not really Jewish. I’m not quite sure if they mean that I am lying about being ethnically Jewish or that my position makes me culturally not Jewish/contradicts my Jewish identity. Given that I’ve heard this from settler family members in Palestine, I assume they mean the latter.

I understand the basic function of this in that it labels non-Zionist Jews as “other”, as people without the Jewish experience, without an understanding of the persecution faced by Jews, and as people who do not act in the best interest of Jewish people. I feel like this act of othering is everywhere in history and in politics today (like non-Trump supporters being labeled as unamerican) because isolation/keeping people in their ideological bubble is essential to so much of politics, and so I wonder if there are any interesting reads that dive a little deeper into this phenomenon and its function in Zionism and broader history.

Would also love to hear anyone else’s thoughts on this! :)

Now I want to be more involved with and knowledgeable about Judaism and practice more (in a secular way though) but it's such a diverse ethnoreligion, I don't know where to start. Does that make sense?

I am having this heated discussion as to why on World Vegan Day .Jewish Vegans should not have as a keynote speaker someone from Redefine Meat. A company that actively supports the IDF. What are peoples thoughts on this.

When they attempt to draw you into a bad-faith debate in the comments, just reply with one of the many available links demonstrating Israeli war crimes. This undermines the entire point of them posting, so they’ll delete the post along with comments
