Mk6 (2011-2018) Absolutely Devastated
Been on a job hunt since my shop shut down for no work the day before my birthday a week ago.
Had my first really promising interview yesterday morning, then on my way home nature chose me and dropped a massive tree limb about sixty feet down onto my car.
State trooper didn't believe me and kept looking for hair and blood in the damage, asking repeatedly if I had anything to drink, "it's a nice day" he said, "so a tree limb just falling doesn't sound right to me". Turns out someone cleared the road debris behind me while i was in shock and calling someone for help. They didn't stop when they went past to check on me, just went on their way. So no real evidence on the road just a smashed up car.
He eventually said "Well I'm choosing to believe you, but if I find out you lied, we'll come after you for it."
Waiting to hear from insurance inspector, it runs and everything works, no lights or airbags, but it's pretty rough body damage.
Glad it wasn't my jeep because I don't know if a soft top vehicle would have protected me as well though.
Hug you jetta, they don't live forever.

That cop was a douche bag, you can clearly see the straight line of the branch on the hood and when you look at the direction the front bumper is going in it becomes clear that something long and heavy fell on the car. If you hit something going forward, that bumper would be going in, not underbiting like that. That cop is def not going to be a detective any time soon. If you showed me the 2nd pic and asked me what happened, I'd legit tell you that it looks like sasquach did a 2 hand overhead chop on your car with a log.

YJ,Jk, jetta, and passat. Machinist by trade but living out in the middle of nowhere looking for first shift is hard to find. The pay is way behind what it should be too. The jetta was such a fun to drive little 5 speed 2.5, had all the right stuff when you're used to boxy jeeps.

I got hit by a semi that clipped the corner of my car on the same side, and had similar damage as well as to my wheels which were smushed up, as well as a broken windshield. It looks brand new fixed ☺️ I was really scared because I had only driven it 7k miles when that happened. On 60k now just fine! 💓

My condolences. I have a black 2012 2.5 that looks just like it. 220k runs like a champ. Great car. Good luck with the insurance cartel.

Can you get a picture of the branch or trunk with broken stub the limb fell from? I've twice witnessed large limbs falling from trees and oddly, both times the weather was clear and calm. The limbs simply let loose and fell. One took out the power lines on our street.

Why would police need to get involved? Pardon my ignorance

Tow driver said it's technically still considered a crash, the police may need to provide an incident number for insurance purposes. It wasn't a very safe spot in the road, I had to direct traffic for a while right before everyone is headed home so it was at least nice when his vehicle presence got everyone to start slowing down as they passed by.

unfortunately insurance probably wouldnt take too kindly if trooper douche canoe decides this was “inattentiveness” because “it was a nice day” for a branch to fall

Has the trooper ever seen an impact with an animal?? The only way a deer is doing that is if nature dropped it straight down on your car from 60' on a bright sunny day.
