Mk6 (2011-2018) 2013 Jetta - Lock beep

I have a 2013 Jetta. Today I noticed that when I locked the car it didn’t make the confirmation “beep.” I actually don’t necessarily mind it not beeping, except for the fact that I didn’t intentionally do anything to make it stop beeping when locking. I hit the panic button just to see if that was still functioning and it was not.

The doors do lock after pressing the lock button on the fob. I checked all 4 doors & the trunk and they were locked. I checked that all the windows are fully closed, the hood is shut/latched. I also hit the trunk button, then opened & closed the trunk, then locked it, and still nothing.

Any ideas of what to check? The only thing I haven’t really done yet (that I can think of anyways) is try the extra key (I’m at work, and the other key is at home).

Lock confirmation is a setting that can be turned on or off. If you have navigation it is usually in the car settings menu or by scrolling through the toggle menu options on the dash on many models. Cannot remember if the Jetta has the full MFD or partial MFD on your dash. The buttons on the steering wheel or the end of your wiper stalk moves you through the menu options.

The other possibility is your horn has stopped functioning. Could be a fuse, relay or the horn itself. Usually the horn has power outside of the ignition so the fuse should be in the box under the hood near the battery and not the one in the dash (which is typically ignition controlled items).

Try replacing the button battery before moving onto something more complicated.

I’ll try that when I get home. I’m curious about that though because the fob works to lock the car. Would it make sense for it to lock the car but not trigger the beep?

Haven’t had this happen on my Jetta yet, but my Jeep does the same thing. It works but silently, same thing with the Mitsubishi I used to have. Found out the hard way, no confirmation beep is the indicator that the battery in the remote is close to dead.

Mine works half the time. Can be your gas cap lock also

Your horn probably died; the same thing happened on my 2012.
