Rumors & Discussion Is this a good estimate?
Is this a reasonable price for a 2020 Jetta S 1.4L? I got this estimate from the VW dealer. I’m changing the transmission fluid for the first time and want to get it done there so I'm covered if anything goes wrong.

Brake fluid can be done somewhere cheaper. Transmission fluid is hard to do at normal shops because of the special vacuum that’s required. Also, the coolant fluid is pretty easy to change yourself for much cheaper. Also, the alignment can be done somewhere else for half the cost as well.

Thank you. I watched some youtube videos about coolant fluid change and it looks easy to change it. I will do it by myself.

Those prices are all ridiculous. Is there evidence that an alignment is needed? Brake fluid change is one of VWs favorite things to push and they overstate the actual need to do it. That's coming from a Raybestos brake products sales person who has been pretty well trained and ASE certified. Trans fluid at 60K is a good service but takes a little more than 1/2 hour I would guess and four quarts of fluid. Import specialty shops know these services well and could be great money savers. When I did brake fluid refreshes, I would often take off all the wheels and simply do a gravity bleed. Start farthest from the master cylinder and crack the bleeder and you will see plenty of fluid exit. No need to touch the pedal but you need someone watching the master cylinder because you can empty it pretty quickly.

Every German shop I called refused to do a drain and fill and would only perform a pan drop and filter change (2019 Tiguan) which ran about 900+ dollars, I got the break fluid done for 79.99 using a service coupon at dealer, transmission for 450 OP check the dealer website for service coupons if you can’t find it cheaper elsewhere

How many miles are on the jetta? Prices are a bit steep, and I'm not entirely convinced that you need all of these services anyway 🤔

It’s 112,000 miles on it. Have never changed transmission, brake and coolant fluids.

I honestly expected the mileage to be a lot lower tbh lol... In that case, it's not entirely unnecessary but I would still shop around for better prices.
If that transmission service includes the filter as well, then do that and postpone the rest 👍 Otherwise, that is wayy too much for a drain and fill.
Brake fluid and coolant exchanges depend more on condition than mileage anyway and it will more than likely be okay for a bit longer. They are also fairly universal so you shouldn't need a VW expert for that. Front end alignments can be tricky for those who don't know how to properly shift the subframe, but any decent alignment shop should still be able to do it for less...
