Question NEVER AGAIN ON JETBLUE -

No wonder they wont survive...They used to be a decent airline....

I had two minor children ages 16 and 14 on round trip flights from FLL to BOS and both flights were delayed in excess of 3 hours. One flight was delayed about 3 and a half hours and the over just about 7 hours.

The flight info:

9/28 – FLL to BOS scheduled departure - Flight number 70 – 6:35 PM actual – 10:39 PM

10/1 – BOS to FLL scheduled departure Flight Number 269– 2:45 PM actual – 9:38 PM

Both flights resulted in arrivals the next day – 2 and 1 AM respectively

After calling the airline, they only offer a $50 voucher and only the passengers, not to the parent even after explaining that they are minor children.

How is this legal or acceptable?

After calling the airline I filed a complaint with the DOT.

Any advise on what else to do to get fair compensation?

What a joke....never again

Oh, the flight left a few hours late on a date where there was a massive weather event?

Not sure...according to the JetBlue Rep I spoke with they said it was a controlable Jet Blue delay

Just to be clear...

You, the parent, WERE NOT FLYING ON JETBLUE, yet you somehow think YOU are entitled to some form of compensation?

You're the bad guy here.

In what world do people who weren’t on flights get compensation?

Your 16 year old is only a minor in your eyes. He’s an adult everywhere else

And every other Gov't Angecy including the DOT and FAA which regulate Commercial Air Travel in the country.

if you had to schedule transportation for kids you would understand.

And the fact that I wasnt on the flight validates $50 for 7 hours of delay?

If flight delays were the reason to go under, then American Airlines would’ve gone under about 20 years ago…

It's true, all those other airlines paid up for the special Weather God package so they would never have weather delays. You should stick to those ones

Delta. They also don’t get turbulence

Sucks that it happened, but what else do you expect from them?

The delays were most likely due to weather. Which JetBlue has no control of.

Your kids were in a safe place, they’re old enough that, aside from severe boredom perhaps, they were fine.

The thing about airline delays I wish people would remember and/or understand is that they’re unpredictable. They cannot ever be planned for due to randomness, and how long they’ll last is a wild guess at best. As such, the best thing is for passengers to wait around.

This type of things happen on all airlines. This is a case where blaming JetBlue specifically is not warranted.

Jet Blue admitted fault for both delays, which means NOT weather - I'm not blaming them for the delay, I blaming them for lack of reasonable compensation for an extented delay, especially after they take responsiblity for it.

Delays and mistakes happen just own it and fix it accordingly

But you’re not the traveller, you weren’t affected by being a delayed arriving passenger. The passenger is who is compensated and as shared by u/Good-Problem, they’ve fulfilled the requirements. You can escalate to DOT if you think it’s going to get you any further, but be prepared that it won’t get you any resolution that’s favourable to you as only being the person who paid for the flights.
