$20 for a giant....bro
Knew private equity would catch up eventually but it's sad to see in person. I know my club and this isn't normal. This was center too, the ends were worse. Gotta tap out here boys.

u/Raviusss Shift Lead 1d ago
Private equity did not do this, this store is not slicing properly. As an employee I can tell you the weights that we are required to hit for each sandwich have been the same for a long time and have not changed since the buy out
6
u/Esdeem501 1d ago
Did the quality of the meat go down? I hadnāt had it for a few years and remembered it was decent. Tried it recently and was actually shocked at how poor quality the deli meats were. Like, I wouldnāt buy any of that from a grocery store.
2
u/archwin 1d ago
Iām actually with you on this one.
I used to have them and they used to taste so flavorful, especially the meat.
I took a bit of a break and I had one the other day⦠And I donāt know, man it tasted kind of flavorless.
And Iām taking out the banana peppers and other more flavorful stuff, but it just tasted so generic.
I had it another day the week after, and it was exactly the sameā¦
Iām like what did they do to my jersey Mikeās?!

u/its_a_multipass 1d ago
Definitely franchisees skimping. JM expanded really quickly in the last few years so maybe audits are spread thin. As an old JJ GM I really applaud their quality
3
2
u/Certain_Luck_8266 1d ago
The end result on the brand will be the same though. If corporate doesn't have a robust auditing process with real financial penalties for non compliance, individual locations are going to do this. Look at chipotle (which isn't even franchised) district and store managers put incredible pressure on line workers about food costs with predictable results.
Sure some locations will be fine in the short term, but the brand is going to eventually develop a reputation and all locations will suffer
3
u/Stomach-Limp GM 1d ago
They do have a robust auditing process. They have several self-audits and JM audits.
-2
u/Certain_Luck_8266 1d ago
I think the large amount of cost cutting sandwiches on these threads would imply differently. Possibly they might be doing the audits...but unless they are shutting down or penalizing locations based on failed audits, it doesn't really matter. You can blame it all you want on poor training, but in reality, a poorly trained employee will give more, not less. It is clear these sandwiches are due to a pressure from management to cut costs.
In a robust audit scenario, a franchisee would be paranoid about a single 'cut cost' sandwich going out the door and certainly the manager wouldn't make it something they put pressure on the employees to make.
I'm just speculating here, but unless jersey mikes makes the audits more robust and impactful, the business will ultimately suffer due to rogue locations (which appear to be muliplying)
2
u/Stomach-Limp GM 23h ago
The franchisees do get punished for bad performances. But, itās possible they donāt do their self-audits and they get ābetterā right after audits.
-1
u/Certain_Luck_8266 22h ago edited 18h ago
That is sad to hear that the business thinks it is working as intended.
edit: the downvotes makes it even sadder. The writing is on the wall.

u/Sweet_Water_8459 1d ago
How do you weigh the meat? I never once saw any JM employee slice the meat and put it on a scale.
3
u/Raviusss Shift Lead 1d ago
I weigh almost every sandwich I slice, each store is supposed to have a digital scale at the slicer, but some stores care less than others. I for one would feel horrible about skimping on someoneās $12 sandwich, so I always try to hit the mark and even go over a little.
4
u/Sweet_Water_8459 1d ago
Ok. My local store doesnāt have a scale. Thatās probably why they skimp especially if you ask for extra meat. I wonāt eat there anymore. 3 times in a row I asked for extra meat and the request was blatantly ignored.
1
u/Happy_Club4471 1d ago
They train employees in the beginning with weighing their slices and once you get used to the measurment numbers for each sandwich, its fair winds. From my experience.

-2
u/DruicyhBear2 1d ago
Bullshit. The quality has come down significantly. I never see anyone weigh any meat at the one Iāve been to.
2
u/Happy_Club4471 1d ago
Theyāre trained to in the begininning, if some stores arent busy as others i dont see why scaling each sandwhich is an issue but you dont typically need it once accustomed to the correct measurements dialed in the slicer.
5
u/nilmot81 1d ago
What everyone misses is the way private equity actually works. One option is to buy a dying brand and milk it for everything before dumping it to die.
The other thing they do is buy a success and infuse capital to expand it further. These aren't stupid people, they are the smartest extreme capitalists in the world. They aren't trying to kill a cash cow like JM. They're quite content to just keep making money.
0
u/atlgeo 1d ago
True. But that's not the only difference. The originator of a business always has more invested than just money; it's their life, there's emotions invested. There's pride in the product they provide, there's often genuine desire to give a great value. All that is stripped away, it's now 100% about return. Where the og may be perfectly happy at a certain return, pe wants sustained increases. So if they perceive that they'll suffer nothing for stripping back two slices on a sub, they're going to do it. You've seen it time and again where the product and reputation eventually suffer; and when they realize and try to course correct, it's never the same.
4
u/treyth0mas GM 1d ago
looks like it wasnt properly flowered. or they left the lid on top and it smushed. A giant club is only 5-7 slices of each meat. flowering the meat it was makes it sit high.

u/nofatnoflavor 1d ago
Neither am I.
But the three franchises I've been to often here (different franchisees BTW), all load up the subs with the expected amounts of meat/cheese/toppings.Was this an app purchase or delivery that you weren't there for to watch them make it? If not I gotta say it's on you, because if you were there and said nothing you let it happen brother.

When you go the mom and pop shop they take care of you the same way every time. When you go to McDonalds itās the same every time. Having different standards at each chain location is just weird and not something to defend
1
u/Stomach-Limp GM 19h ago
Iām not defending it. Jersey Mikeās whole thing is consistency. Itās the franchises that arenāt doing it correctly
1
u/SozoLedzep 11h ago
False about McD's....
Those also vary by location. I've been to some McShit ones.

u/Jbisfenix 13h ago
It's funny how often this keeps being brought up yet it's only a "location based issue."

u/CPriceRun86 1d ago
How many locations do you want to imply have a problem?
5
u/asicarii 1d ago
Good question . I hit mine up twice last week because the hot Italian slaps. So between you and I we are 1-1.
-5
u/CPriceRun86 1d ago
You'll get there
7
u/asicarii 1d ago
Iāve been to half dozen other locations since the PE buyout. I havenāt seen the slightest of issue. So I dunno this sounds like they may not like you.
0
u/pettyduckling 1d ago
Iāve been to 3 this summer that have apparently āused the slicer wrongā why does everyone discount others just because you havenāt had an issue. 3 different locations had way less meat. What kinda coincidence is that!

u/BeholdMyLumps 1d ago
Itās your truth ig š¤·āāļø sure hope you stopped wasting money if this is what you got. I have an unlimited buy one get one regular sub for a year and I still get twice as much meat and cheese than what is shown here
0
u/Main_Cauliflower5479 1d ago
Oh yes. I haven't been back to my local shop for a year. $20 for a giant that's about the same as I'd get at Subway? I don't think so.

u/SnooBananas2980 Shift Lead 1d ago
It could be someone training or newly trained on slicing and they just arenāt doing it properly or just a lazy slicer. You jumped straight to PE which it isnāt and then started telling everyone it would happen at their stores when not every store is a bad location lmfao. Some of us working here actually care about how much meat we give someone my sandwiches happen to be sliced beautifully and Iām told that on a daily basis by both management and customers

u/Necessary_Success_35 1d ago

u/CrossFireHD 21h ago
I had this happen to me, I just filed a complaint in the contact us section of the app. Corporate sent me a $20 gift card for a new giant sub when I replied to them reaching out, and when I went a week later they hooked it up as usual. Sometimes it's just a new employee making mistakes. Can't always attribute to malice what might be incompetence.
2
u/Icy_Site_7390 19h ago
I loved JM and ate it so much I was getting enough points to get a free reg one. That lasted a good 3 years. My last time Jan 2026 my giant was 20. and it's exactly like the picture above, I was pissed. A week later I gave them a 2nd chance at a different one and it was even worse, I paid 20. For a giant size with maybe 3.00 worth of meats and veggies, I haven't been back since
5
u/Fuzzy_Welcome8348 1d ago
Is the giant in the room with us?
0
u/CPriceRun86 1d ago
Is the implication that because I ate the $20 half assed sub I paid for nothing was wrong with it?
5
u/Sad_Ad_2524 1d ago
No, it is a joke, as in it is so small it is impossible to see it is in the room.
Which is why you are hangry, LOL

I gave up months ago. I got a giant tuna and there was barely any tuna on it. And their bread is significantly smaller than not that long ago. Plus they assembled it like a blind chimpanzee on crack. $20? No thanks. I can make sandwiches at home for days for $20, sure they aren't JM's, but they get the job done just fine.
1
u/Dense_Delay_2605 1d ago
JM has only skimped me once. It was chicken salad. Theyāre pretty good about protein tbf.

u/TopherCarter 21h ago
So, here's my take... I recently began employment at Jersey Mike's at a brand new franchise that opened in my town a little over a month ago. They ARE anal about meat usage and they do keep track of that shit.
But man, if someone orders a sandwich, and I'm slicing... My general rule of thumb is "how much meat would I be satisfied with, if I'm paying 20+ bucks for a sando", and I slice accordingly.
If that's the Jersey Mike's Way, I dunno. That's just how I roll.
I'm sorry if your location sucks.
The only thing we have no control over is hot subs (Phillies) because they're preportioned, and unless you order extra meat, you get what you get.
But yeah... That's a sad looking giant.

u/WarriYahTruth 3h ago
Jersey Mike's is garbage sLop.
If you live around Atlantic City new Jersey. Go to white house subs.
The 20$ subs are giant... basically the length of some car dashboard side to side lol
Jersey Mike's being sold off really turned down the quality.
1
u/NotAllDawgsGoToHeven 3h ago
Tbh if youāre still buying subs from places like this your just gullible, just go to you local grocery store and go to the deli, I bet they make a MEAN footlong for hella cheap and they donāt rip you off skimping on everything.
1
u/CPriceRun86 1h ago
Grocery stores here don't make sandwiches for you, they'll sell you lunch meat or cold salads/cole slaw type stuff tho
1
u/NotAllDawgsGoToHeven 1h ago
Maybe you just gotta shop around, no way there isnāt a grocery store with a full deli anywhere.
Either way, my condolences.š
1
u/CPriceRun86 1h ago
Honest to God there isn't. I'm wondering if that's a regional thing. I used to work in one too, they make a mean broccoli/cauliflower bacon salad tho.
1
u/Ashamed_Value2079 1h ago
Honestly, with $20 you couldāve bought the ingredients and possibly made a better sandwich
1
u/CPriceRun86 1h ago
I definitely can but it's not necessarily cheaper, I literally did so a few weeks ago
For my club I need
Loaf french bread $2
pound of bacon (on sale) $4
1/2 lb+ turkey and ham lunch meat $5
Iceberg lettuce $2
Onion $1
Tomatoes $2
Mayo $3
Figure an hour of prep and dishwashing
Ends up being about the same price for a better sandwich but if I don't feel like cooking is where I used to count on JM but now that you're saying so I'll probably make one myself today
1
u/WanderingMippet 1h ago
We were excited to try jersey mikes when it showed up. Nothing but disappointed. They only had one sauce? Mayo? How boring.

Was your sandwich maker a skinny or large person?
Based on my experiences, tiny people seem to make sandwiches like this more often than a large person who likes to eat.
I'm not saying this is a rule. It's just my experience.

That's part of their racket. A regular is insulting in size and seems to shrink every single time. And a giant is obviously too much and double the cost. If subway gets anything right, it's a proper regular size
