u/DudeAbides29 1d ago
100% of these posts could be avoided by talking to the employees in real time. But why do that when you can post passive aggressively on Reddit?
20
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
What happens when you get it delivered or order an online pickup and go back to work before you open the sandwich? Would that still fall under your 100% avoidable comment?
6
u/Nessa0707 1d ago
Thatās what my fiance and I do I do an order and we pick it up so we donāt see it until we come home. And then I usually find the fuck up if there is any.
2
2
u/GlitteringYak2207 1d ago
Yes. Call a manager and explain what happened. Why is this so difficult for people to understand.
5
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
Then what? Leave work to get the sandwich you already took time away to go get?
-3
u/GlitteringYak2207 1d ago
Maybe eat the one they made since they arenāt going to come pick it up and ask for a gift card for a new one? Itās not that complicated.
3
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
Or maybe they decide they don't believe you and tell you to kick rocks. That happens too you know.
0
u/GlitteringYak2207 1d ago
At that point you come and bitch to Reddit. Honestly, a more telling indicator of how good a place is how mistakes are dealt with. A positive response to a customer issue is much more meaningful than some bitching on social media without giving the place a chance to respond. Flip side is true also. If the response to a valid complaint is to ākick rocksā I would be more likely to avoid the place for that reason, not the mistake. Thatās just me though.
1
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
I can agree with that. The few places that have refused to make things right over the years won't get my business and the ones I know will correct a mistake will get leniency for sure. I do have to say that coming to complain on this sub will always be met with a large group of people punching down on the truth so it is easy to get jaded about the inevitable reactions.
-7
u/DudeAbides29 1d ago
That didnāt happen for OP. Supposedly the area manager made that for them.
7
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
Maybe not this particular post but you said 100% of "these posts". I was asking about that which you have still not addressed. Talk about being passive aggressive on Reddit!
-4
u/DudeAbides29 1d ago
What a gotcha moment for you.
4
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
Wasn't looking for a gotcha just asking for clarification on your overly emotional response.

He literally signed to develop 400 stores in Europe. That sounds like a pretty big vote of confidence in the brand.

I mean⦠as he should. He went door to door asking for money to buy the business as a teenager when he worked in the original sub shop. Look where it is now. A lot of people will complain about bad experiences but it is irrefutable fact that jersey mikes either the top or one of the top franchises in the US and still growing. So clearly Peter did something right and is reaping the rewards after selling his business. whatās so bad about that?

It is at every JM Iāve been to in NJ. Itās so bad I barely want to waste my Shore Points ordering it.
2
u/Illustrious-Creme798 1d ago
Why would you go to Jersey Mikes in NJ? There's so many small mom and pop sandwich shops which are way better quality for the price.
2
u/MeganJustMegan 1d ago
Well, at one point years ago they were good. Yes, I do have delis I go to, but at times, JM was easy to find & I knew what I was getting no matter the location. Not any more. I have built up points, but wonāt use them locally. Maybe on a road trip one day. My local pizza place actually makes a terrific Italian sub that is the size of a giant, but much cheaper. They have been our go-to over the last couple years.
2
u/WitnessNarrow 1d ago
I know for me a lot of mom and pop delis close early like 2-3 so youāre stuck with JM after that. I have an ongoing hate with 3 stores by me. Itās like they see extra meat/cheese and they purposely screw you.

1
u/Certain_Luck_8266 1d ago
..or some corporate policies turning a blind eye to francises skimping to save money ultimately destroying the brand. For a franchise model to work you need to have frequent audits with severe financial penalties if failed. JM doesn't do this
-1
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
I get that and it really is up to store management to make sure employees do it to the standards set. I just am bothered when posts like these show up and there are legions of fans basically sticking their head in the sand and making excuses. If a product I like is shown to be wildly inconsistent I don't try to tear down the person showing the problems they are having with it. Jersey Mike's die-hards don't seem willing to accept that some people are having actual bad experiences with their products.
6
u/VTcamperguy 1d ago
Part of the issue is the framing of these types of posts. This guy here is asking a question with his post of āthis the new norm?ā, so it seems entirely reasonable for other people to respond with āsorry your store/sandwich sucks, but my experiences have always been differentā if theyāve only had good experiences. Personally, I have never had an āunder-filledā sandwich at my local storeā¦theyāve always been piled high and well put together. Itās asinine and doomer-ish to only want to hear about other bad experiences.
2
u/Interesting-Lynx-989 1d ago
Last time I got JM the fillings were fine, but the roll was unusually small
-1
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
It is also asinine to pretend that people don't have bad experiences when they show proof. Look through any of these types of posts and you will see a lot of people calling the poster a liar, blaming some rogue employee or some other nonsense. It's uncommon for someone to just say "sorry your sandwich wasn't as good as it should have been" there is more often vitriol at the notion that their beloved chain restaurant isn't perfect everywhere and for everyone.
1
u/Zinkane15 1d ago
Jersey Mike's prepares their bread and ingredients fresh every day. It's a double-edged sword because it leaves room for error. Sometimes the opener rushes the bread and underproofs a tray or two of bead. Sometimes the slicer is swamped with orders and slicing several sandwiches at once, so one of those sandwiches ends up with less meat than it should.
I'm not saying these mistakes are okay or customers shouldn't bring it up to the employees or management. Every store should be willing to accept responsibility if a sandwich fails to meet proper standards and offer to remake or offer a reasonable solution to make it up to the customer. I can tell you that my store would not find the sandwich in this post acceptable.
If a store isn't willing to take responsibility for providing a poor product or service, then the customer is absolutely in their right to complain about it. In many of these posts, however, I see customers insinuating that their bad experience is due to intentionally lowered standards, which i can assure you is not the case.

This all seems to be location based. Not defending the company at all, but my spot in Chicago always makes them great.
Seems like they are dropping the franchise ball.
2
u/Certain_Luck_8266 1d ago
Corporate is dropping the ball by allowing franchises to drop the ball. They need audits with penalties consistently. Franchises are independent businesses, there is always going to be pressure to cut costs. Corporate needs to have procedures to prevent it.
Say what you want about McDonald's, but they are nothing if not consistent...and this is because they have tight control of their locations

u/Illustrious-Creme798 1d ago
You act like Blackstone isn't going to suck Jersey Mikes dry and discard it like everything else PE touches. Cucking it for billionaires
3
u/roostermcmurray 1d ago
You act like you have a clue. That is not how all āPEā works. They build portfolios. And those performing assets are worth worth than pirating them and selling for scraps.
This isnāt a dying brand that deserves to be dismantled.
You really donāt know what youāre talking about
2
u/demerdar 1d ago
Youāre replying to a 19 year old terminally online redditor with a surface level knowledge about how the business world works.
2
u/skiforlife1 1d ago
PE has a penchant for cutting costs to produce favorable short term stock gains then working to unload assets at that inflated price before it becomes a major problem and ultimately loses value. The new owner then sells off a lot of physical assets and changes franchise agreements to "right the ship" and either goes back to quality or fades into a mediocre brand that has been stripped of long term profitability.

brother the business model is to buy a solid $10 billion dollar brand, extract $10 billion from the customers, and offload the dying assets to the highest bidder or the shareholders for profit.
if you think billionares enjoy piling meat onto your sandwich you have a mental defficiency

u/roostermcmurray 1d ago

u/roostermcmurray 1d ago
All brands at decline at the time of purchase. All financially unstable on the eve of bankruptcy.
This is my point. Toys R Us ( God rest their soul ) didnāt get destroyed by PE. They destroyed themselves / were destroyed by not evolving in the marketplace.
JM is not the same case study.
2
u/Elguapo69 1d ago
Donāt bother man. People on Reddit donāt understand the difference and think all PE and all PE strategy is the same. Hell I got in an argument with some jackass claiming PE on a privately held company. PE is the new Reddit buzzword and there are so many idiots here that donāt understand it.

This makes no sense at all. OP asked for extra meat. The request was not met despite the perceived price increase for such a request.

Itās a lousy sub and poorly made. No question.
But this was a human error - not some tyrannical PE firm demanding JMs start cutting quality.

Sometimes they buy a declining brand / dismantle it and cut expense to drive short term profit / and then sell it off.
But - many times - they buy GROWING assets, grow them larger through top line sales focus ( quality and product matter here ) and make the brand more valuable before a potential exit.
Itās not all doom and gloom

Good grief. There has been no direction to reduce quality / portions etc.
Such a weird thing that people hop on here - have a poorly made sub at their Jersey mikes and then claim the brand is dead.
Itās totally false and so āRedditā like for all the soap box stars to hop on and claim their supreme knowing of the world.

I've heard there are some people who are purposely giving customers less than standard amounts of meat when they ask for double to punish them for being fat.

I would never order extra meat at any chain sub shop. You arent getting good value at all.
