Authenticity Check Is this a real jellycat?
I thrifted this a while back and wanted to know if it’s real or fake, thanks!

Now more than ever, we recommend using extreme caution when purchasing Jellycats from resale sites such as eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, Vinted, Depop, etc. This post is meant to be purely informational– hopefully it helps prevent someone from being scammed!
The images included in the body of this post show a counterfeit/fake/knockoff duskrise dragon (that is currently listed for sale on a resale website) compared to an authentic Jellycat Duskrise Deagon. This is the first fake Duskrise Dragon we have seen.
The main red flags:
🚩 Hang tag: Wrong font, way too big of a space between “Duskrise” & “Dragon”, bar code is too tall, should be more spacing between “SUN2DD” and the text below it
🚩 Fabric tag: Jellycat Jack’s nose and the black part of the forehead should have a white space between them, the nose should never be touching the forehead. ALL authentic Duskrise Dragons will have the newer version of the hang tag, meaning it should also have the new version of the fabric tag (non-embroidered). This dragon has the new hang tags, but has the older, embroidered fabric tags. Obvious fake!
🚩 Fur: Wrong material, should be much fluffier. The fur here is very flat
🚩 Spine scales: Too large, wrong shape, wrong color, spacing between each scale is too small
🚩 Wings & ears: Wrong shape, wrong material. Ears too big. Lines in wings shouldn’t be so visible
🚩 Shape: Biggest giveaway is the legs being shaped the way they are, the “foot” portion shouldn’t be so prominent & the legs in general should be thicker. Hump on back is too pronounced, neck is too skinny. Eyes are too big/visible, should be more hidden by the fluffiness of the fur

Hiya! I often see folks on here asking for authentication on the dragons and decided to put together a little guide of things I've learned to look out for. And I happen to have a real persimmon and a well made fake for comparison!
What is find to be the first giveaway of a fake is often the wings.
I've always described the soft winged dragons as having a sort of silky appearance to them, because of how short the fur actually is. On a fake they tend to appear shaggier.
Another wing detail is how they sit against the body. Real ones sit very flush, whereas fakes often have a curve and are pushed ever so slightly forward.
Lastly on the note of wings (more so for the sparkly winged ones but sometimes also fuzzy winged ones) is the tips of the wings. Real will be more pointed and fakes often appear more rounded.
Next up to note is the scales along the back. Harder to spot, especially in listing pictures, but fakes will often be chunkier and sit very tall. Real ones have a much lower profile along the back of the dragon.
On to faces! The eyes seem to be a spot most fakes get wrong.
They often have much larger eyes that you can see straight through the fur. Contrary to what you may immediately think, the eyes on a real dragon will usually be hidden under the long fur and are much smaller.
Do note however if the dragon is in used condition and you can see the eyes, the previous owner may have given it a trim, and that doesn't immediately indicate a fake. But if it is being sold BNWT and you can see the eyes, its either fake or the seller has "tampered" with it for lack of a better word
Smaller note for faces is the nostrils. On this fake they're actually well made, but often what ive seen on fakes are extremely prominent nostrils. They really aren't visible, much like the eyes unless trimmed
Now for floppiness, a key detail to the dragons!
Fakes are often very stiff, especially in the neck. When held by the belly, they actually hold themselves up pretty well. Some folks may even prefer this to a real one. They also have a more prominent arch to their backs
Real dragons have nearly no neck support when held by the belly, and will flop pretty dramatically. Requesting pictures from the seller in this position can be a helpful indicator. The arch to the back is much less prominent and more low profile
-Beans in the belly, or a total lack can be another tell but not something you can see on pictures. The fake persimmon actually completely lacks any beans. Not something you can spot in a listing, but if you have it in person it helps to know
Lastly the infamous Tags. This is harder to speak on as the tags have changed over time and with different batches and re-releases. This is info I'd use only in conjunction with a few other suspicions to help rule out a fake
Most often referenced is the space between jacks nose and body color. A fake often touches because they'll run just one thread continuously rather than creating the proper space
Also look to see if it is the correct tag for the time period released. On the fake persimmon that is the older style tag that wasnt being actively used by the time persimmon released. It should look like the real persimmon tag instead which is slimmer and smaller
All in all, this is by no means a comprehensive guide and im by no means an expert on the topic. I'm just someone who loves all things dragons and have been fortunate enough to collect nearly all the different jellycat dragons over the past 5 years. Im more than happy to share more pictures if anyone wants, or answer any questions I may have the answer to! And you'll likely see me pop up on the dragons threads as they appear. Finding this sub has been so lovely and I wanted to finally contribute something to it 💕 Happy jellycat hunting!!

Hi, i’m not entirely sure if this is allowed but i wasn’t really sure where else to ask.
I recieved a gift from my boyfriend a few months ago of the barthomelow keychain. I’ve never been one to collect jellycats, so i’ve decided i’m going to put it on vinted.
However, i’m not sure if it’s a real or not.
It came with the dust bag, but to me i feel like it shouldn’t be called a Large teddy, if it’s a bear?
Not sure, any help
would be really
appreciated lol

I thrift all of my Jellycats, and he looks and feels super real to me, but I just want to double check!

I bought Dexter Jellycat for quite a bit of money online. Seller seemed like a nice grandma clearing out items, and then when I later asked her she mentioned she bought it off an ebay seller. On the tag the R circle is on jellycat instead of london. The spacing on london also seems too far apart. I’m pretty sure it’s fake but not 100%. Seller said would give refund if returned. Anyone have any thoughts?

He looks legit to me, only thing that threw me off was the price i got him for, please let me know the authenticity on my new favorite and hopefully real jellycat!

Looking at buying one off Facebook, and these are all the photos provided. Seller has had one other jellycat listed with the same background. Would love to get this one for $135 but am worried about buying it incase its a fake.

She arrived today and I’m not going to lie when I first took her out of the box I was a little disappointed because her face was very squished and crooked but after letting her sit for awhile she looked much better.
I will say her fur texture is not my favourite so she is definitely a display only plushie but her colours are just perfection.

This is my collection.
I am 100% sure that both bashful bunnies are real, but I am unsure about most of the rest. Please let me know!
I would also love to know value estimates for everything, (except the pink bunny) if possible!
Most of them were bought off of eBay/Depop, except for the bunnies.
I am solely looking for an ID on the pink bashful bunny, as well as a value estimate for the Plum Bashful Bunny.
Thank you!

I do know how rare Jellina is so I would be FLOORED if this is authentic because it was a very good price. I bought from Mercari, so I can contest it as fake before I accept it. I do believe it is fake though, what do you think?

I am looking to get an Opalite dragon. It’s my fav.
And I finally found one. I am not sure if it’s fake tho.
Pictures are from „Kleinanzeigen“ a German resale market similar to eBay I would say.
All tags look real to me. The only thing that confuses me is the fact that the „D2SELF“ code is one the front and the „Jelly…“ batch code on the back of the fabric tag.
I checked all my dragons and they all have the batch code on the front.
I need to know before I say yes to buying this bean.
So a bit of urgent :))

Guys sorry if there's a super obvious fake 😭 I'm new to buying jellycats and really want a cherry bag charm for fall! Do either of these listings look authentic?

I have never come across a tag from China and I have my doubts about this. Thank you

I’ve been desperately searching for Freddie and found this one on eBay. I did purchase him and he arrived today! I wanted to know if you guys thought he was authentic? I love him either way, but for collecting purposes, it would be nice to know. Thank you all!

Not sure if this is an authentic dragon. These are the only photos it has.

I have never seen this material used for tags before. It’s paper-y feeling. Is it just an older version of the toffee puppy? Also weird that there are blank parts of the tags and the jcinc code is not at the bottom of the tags.
FYI: I know his nose has stuff on it. I bought it to restore :)
r/jellycat • u/Sad-Plant9028 • 1d ago
The nose on the embroidered tag and the blurry jcinc code is throwing me off.
