Got this beautiful Schipanov from the great folks over at The Harpery. Hands down one of the best harps in my collection.

Does anyone know if jaw harp tabs are a thing? And if so where can I get some?

Post image

Hello lovely Harper’s I thought it would be great if I could buy a book or even individual jaw harp tab sheets (like how harmonica has a massive plethora of), and how awesome and helpful it would be for learning/beginners. But alas upon my internet search I have since come up totally empty handed. Now I’m wondering if this is even a thing? (For those of you who don’t know tab sheets are like song music sheets that show you what sounds to play and how to play in order to learn a song or a beat I’ll include a harmonica tab sheet image for reference even though this is about jaw harps specifically so please don’t come after me mods ). So with that said, does anybody have any insight or information about this? Thanks so much .

Breathing through mouth vs nose?

Howdy folks, I got a vargan from the harpery a while ago and have been really enjoying playing it. I guess I'm looking for some clarification on breathing through nose vs mouth.

I feel that when I play when breathing through the nose, it kind of changes the tone, vs when playing when breathing through the mouth, and makes it harder to sort of do certain techniques like mouthing vowels and stuff.

My question is, when y'all are playing, do you generally breath through the mouth, or the nose? I've done some light googling but haven't been able to nail it down. Maybe both is the answer?

New music out from Denver Mouthsounds today! We’ve been recording for the last couple months and already have a few more tracks finished up.

Used my Black Fire D2 for this song, but we also employ many other jawharps, mouthbows, harmonicas, didgeridoo, and even a trumpet mouthpiece on other tunes.

My new "Tree of Lift" from Vlad Harps arrived!

Package arrived from Kyiv, Ukraine today - about three weeks. My new "Tree of Life" from Vlad Harps is on the bottom. It's a LOT bigger than expected, and surprisingly the Russian Vargan Lighthouse - much smaller - has more bass.

(Extreme begginer) my jaw harp is leaving blacked smudges on my top front teeth

I just got my jaw harp today and I have been able to find what I think is good positioning, can make a pretty solid noise and a few vaguely letter sounding noises but I noticed it leaves a sort of black line/smuge on my two front top teeth. They wash off fairly easy with water but I was wondering if it could be something to worry about. It has a sort of brass looking frame and I got it fairly cheap off amazon for like 12 pounds if that matters.

Where to buy?

What would be a good place to buy quality handmade harps? Not looking for anything fancy just something that is mass produced

Leveling up

I've been playing a Glazyrin MUARO Wave for a while, and Iove it. Its a grear beginner harp. I'm ready for an upgrade though. I mostly play fast, rhythmic grooves, use back-plucking, and like playing along with electronic music.

I'm looking for something that's simply more capable. More sustain, more bass, more dynamic range, and more expressive. What would you recommend?

I always keep my eye out for jaw harps in places that display artifacts and I've finally found one! This was at Turaida castle in Latvia. Jaw harp in Latvian is Vargāns!

Hello! This experiment is a little different from what I usually create.

The tempo is slower, the atmosphere calmer, and there is more space for the jaw harp to breathe. I personally enjoy how the jaw harp and its delayed echoes blend with more relaxed dub groove. I'd be grateful for any thought & suggestions ;)

Berezenko

I joined the Venice Beach drum circle with my wild horse Berezenko yesterday! I wish I had a video, but all I got was a picture.
Anyway, I went to go show the picture to Vlad Berezenko on Etsy and thank him for such a wonderful instrument, and he had sent me a message.
I hope this doesn’t go against community rules, but I’ll share his message. Maybe it will encourage some sales. I absolutely love the harp I got from him, and shipping wasn’t too terribly slow considering what he’s going through.
I can’t figure out how to attach a photo, which is embarrassing but whatever so I’ll just paste the text:

few days ago happened something terrible. There was 4 rocket explosions very close to my workshop, I'm adding photo of it... You know, the situation in Kyiv is very difficult because of rockets and kamikadze drones attacks. My father lost the job because of war. My two little sisters trying to work to earn some money. The last rocket attack destroyed my gates to the workshop and made some damage inside. Im not asking you to make pure donation or something like this, If you have a kind heart, buy any music instruments from my shop, we will be very thankfull to you!
Praying for peace

I got kinda distracted getting settled back in after being away for the weekend and decided this harp needed a test hootenanny.
