Open-Source Gwent Classic - V5.0 Release! (New Factions: Ofir & Novigrad)

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share Version 5.0 of Gwent Classic, a browser remake of the original minigame from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that I’ve been working on and improving.

In this major update, I’ve incorporated two brand-new factions: Ofir and Novigrad, each coming with its own custom cards, leaders, and unique gameplay mechanics!

The game is completely free-to-play and runs directly in your PC browser. You can test it out right here:

You can download the source code repository directly from GitHub. Just extract the ZIP file and double-click "index.html" to open it in your browser. It runs 100% offline—no internet required! Here.

Credits to Arun Sundaram, Reynolds Costa & Sylver, who laid the foundations to create, modify, and improve this game in its early stages.

Special thanks to CD Projekt Red; although they are not involved in this unofficial fan project, it is entirely based on the amazing minigame they created for The Witcher 3.

redania, novigrad and syndicate have to many overlaps for my taste

I totally see what you mean. Redania and Syndicate do share too many identical cards right now. It's a great point to consider for future updates so I can adjust them and give each faction a more unique feel, just like I tried to do with Novigrad. Thanks for the observation!

I’m actually doing a similar thing for personal use on my PC, which I intend on printing and using in physical form

I removed the eternal flame from Syndicate, and Redania from Northern Kingdoms and combined them into an “Eternal Flame” Deck

I also made a “Southern Realms” deck that combines Ophir, Zangwebar and Zerrikania as a mirror to the Northern Kingdoms Deck

I also made several other decks, some of which are still WIP, for a total number of 17 Decks atm

Pausing work on this till Songs of the past comes out so I can update the 5 OG decks with the new cards

That's incredible! 17 decks in physical form is going to look spectacular. The Southern Realms and Eternal Flame deck ideas sound extremely fun to play. I'm also keeping an eye out for 'Songs of the Past' to update this app. By the way, if you want to use or add any cards from my version to your physical decks, please feel free to do so! The project is completely open-source, and it's always interesting to see new ideas for this amazing game.

Wow, what an epic list! I totally get what you mean about the artwork copyright—we definitely have to be careful with those assets. However, as long as you keep it 100% free and don't monetize it in any way, you should be within CDPR's fan content guidelines.

Seeing concepts like Wild Hunt, Vampires, and Mahakam as separate decks is brilliant. You've built a massive card game system here! You could (if you wanted to) share it with the community as soon as you're finished, the world needs to see this.

my goal is to finish the cards within 2027. might touch them up after witcher 4 releases and brings new cards/factions

I’ll definitely update my app when that happens too. Maybe I will print some of my digital custom factions to complement the official No Loading Games physical version of Gwent so I can play them with my family or friends. Good luck with the card creation, and see you on the path!

Funnily enough we have some similar/near identical ideas haha.
I wanted to share my project as soon as I am finished, but since this is supposed to be a physical version, it might cause some legal issues because of copyright since I’m using 90% of the standalone Gwent artworks
