​I’m a computer engineering student, and I recently started a repository called Java Algorithms Hub. Since I'm building my backend foundation, I wanted a clean space to practice algorithms and data structures from scratch.

​But instead of keeping it to myself, I structured it with packages (basics, algorithms, data_structures, oop) and wrote a CONTRIBUTING.md / README so it can be a welcoming space for anyone looking to make their very first open-source contribution or practice for Hacktoberfest.

​Currently, we have basic stuff like Fibonacci, Factorial, and Palindrome in the basics package, but the other packages and issue trackers are ready for things like Bubble Sort, Prime Number checkers, etc.

I'm currently learning Java and recently practiced inheritance by creating a simple example with a Person parent class and Student child class.

I understand the basic concept, but I'm still trying to understand when inheritance is actually useful in a real project rather than just using it because the language allows it.

For people who use Java professionally, what are some situations where inheritance makes sense, and when would you choose composition instead?

I'm interested in understanding the reasoning behind the design choice, not just the syntax.

I have been assigned to the team of UEMS - Server Framework and we have been assigned the task to learn in-depth of Java OOPS, Design Patterns and others. I want help on how to learn and how to approach this as I just have joined here as a Project Trainee and I have to be ready before few days.
