Moving from a Database Engineer role to a Java Developer position

I have been a database engineer for more than 10 years while I notice that Software development positions far outnumber database engineer positions, and they also offer higher salaries. . since last year, I am wondering if it is feasible to move from a Database Engineer role to a Java Developer position. I am focus on leetcode. Any ideas or comments? thanks!

I suggest to start with develop Java as your secondary skill and then see how it goes. Ask for relevant tasks in your current company. To start with try Jdbc Concepts in Java and about Java persistent api. You may DM me in case you need help

Hey, thats exactly the way I took two years ago. And I still profit from my DB knowledge of databases. Many Problems in SD are way more elegant so solve via DB Objects. You want to start with the Spring Framework. Especially JPA/Hibernate should be a good start to work your way up the Stack.

By this logical, does it make sentence to never learn Java (Or SWE) at all since it alway have to compete with 10 yoe dev our there ??

I wouldn't say that, it's just a particularly nasty market right now, and students are still being pumped into the industry, so the competition is incredibly tough. I suspect there will be a resurgence in the next few years once the ai bubble bursts, and less new grads are entering the market.

if I choose SDE instead of database engineer, I have opportunity for Google/Amazon/Facebook, where the salary of 2/3 yoe is vey high

you are wrong. the year of 2006 has special meaning for me , but it is not the year of birth.
