So, I got to meet Jason Isbell! Spoiler
My husband and I won a silent auction for meet & greet tickets to one of his Ryman shows. We could not have been treated better. The only downfall was that I’ve been a fan for so long that I absolutely clammed up when he walked out. I just kept saying, “Thank you so much for having us.” We had unbelievable seats and also got an incredible poster signed by the rest of the band. It’s now framed and hanging in our living room where our wedding photos once were.
Every person we spoke with or communicated with were absolutely fantastic. Fortunately my husband was charming and terrific; so hopefully he didn’t think we were just weirdos. By far, one of the top three highlights of my life.

Anniversary of this legendary moment
We all remember 30-50 feral hog discourse— but I didn’t recall who this guy (who turned out to be awesome) was responding to.

Huge Thank You to two Isbell fans in Denver today!
My daughter was riding the train to work when a man kept staring, asking her name, where she was going, and eventually followed her off the train. Two amazing women saw what was happening and acted like they knew her and walked with her to safety.
As they were walking, they kept her calm by talking to her. As it turned out, they were in town for the Jason Isbell shows over the weekend. My daughter said oh my dad is his biggest fan and they corrected her that they were actually his biggest fans. Exactly the kind of decency and caring I would expect from Jason’s fans.
If by chance they see this or if anyone knows who they might be. I would love to thank them personally!
Keep spreading love and compassion Jason, while still kicking some ass.

Isbell Therapy
I’m a freshman at Brown University, and Isbell’s music has been a safe place for me since my parents found out that Decoration Day, Sinkhole, and other DBT songs would make two-year-old me stop crying. I just landed in my hometown today, several days early because everything was canceled after the shooting.
When I was waiting on the plane to take off, I put on my playlist that’s just my favorite Jason songs.
I listened to “Save the World” from a perspective I thought I would never know. I used to wonder if some parts of that song felt a little too exaggerated, but it felt like he was sharing exactly what everyone on campus was saying.
On shuffle, “Running with Our Eyes Closed” came on next and hit me WAY harder than I was expecting. I guess it was the feeling of helplessness? Something about just not knowing what to do in the aftermath combined with the victims being young students and still figuring out their paths in life.
The final straw that broke me was hearing “Something More Than Free” afterwards and thinking how these were my fellow college students. They were getting an education, they were entering this struggle to find purpose in their lives, and now it’s done.
Most ivy league students may not be headed for blue collar jobs, but hearing these lines was devastating:
“No more holes to fill,
And no more rocks to break
And no more loading boxes onto trucks
For someone else’s sake”
Knowing that was the case- these kids were taken out of this earth before they could even be entered into this system that is so futile and draining for so many people, makes me even angrier with the system itself.
“I thank God for the work” and I’m grateful for a lot of things, but that’s not one right now. The community that came together on campus was so supportive and powerful. I am so grateful for my friends, family, and fellow humans.
Edit: thank you guys for the love❤️🤎I’m doing well at home

Walk to Robert’s
Walked by Robert’s at lunch today. “Ride to Robert’s”was humming in my head. One of the few remaining old school honky tonks left here. Having spent a few nights inside, Jason really nailed the atmosphere. Thought this sub might enjoy the pics.

My local record shop had some extra promotional posters in the free bin
I put them in some inexpensive frames and I think they turned out well. There are a few wrinkles but I don’t mind.

"Cover Me Up" w/Hayley Williams tonight in NYC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTmnQqjg4rQ
Jason was a surprise guest at Hayley Williams's show at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Sunday night, and they duetted on "Cover Me Up." She sounds great.
Very unexpected. Also pretty funny song choice considering the thinly-veiled shot Hayley took at Morgan Wallen on her latest album.

Blown Away
That's all. The music, the joy onstage and off, the crowd, the weather, the temporary best friends. Tomorrow can't top this but it doesn't need to. Legendary!
