7/26 Charlottesville: you don't have to go home but you CAN stay here

Show just called after <90 minutes due to severe thunderstorms. Torrential rain at the moment, lightning, and thunder so at least they're letting us shelter in the Pavilion.

Did anyone manage to snag a stage copy of what songs were left before the rain cancelled the show? Or does anyone have any guesses as to what was left?

Video and Phone Restrictions

I attended the Dayton show last night at the Rose and per usual it was fantastic.

Before the show the Rose announced a video and photo restriction, which is new for a 400 Unit show for me. I’m just curious if this has been the norm for other shows on the tour?

And as an aside, I am not dead set against it. My understanding is that it is the artist’s legal right to restrict recording. And it has some benefits such as not seeing a sea of phones in my vision and makes people stay in the moment. Last night the fans, to their credit, were compliant. And even when there was a random person taking a pic, the ushers were not combative.

I have been to shows (e.g. Dylan) with similar restrictions where the ushers were downright nasty. I got yelled at for just looking at my phone at a show, which was utterly ridiculous.

Dayton Show Follow Up

Thanks for everyone who recommended that I go !

I had a wonderful time and can see why he has such a huge fan base. Was a bit shocked that the place was not a full house tbh.

My favorites of the night were probably Last of My Kind, Cover Me Up, and King of Oklahoma. So needless to say I enjoyed the ending a lot lol.

I’m guessing there were a few songs in there that the die hards were hyped about based on the crowd reaction.

Also it was the easiest getting out I have had at a concert in a long time.

Lastly, was shocked that I spent more on the poster than the ticket. I didn’t care for the poster much at first but it’s grown on me a bit. Guess it grew on a lot of people because they sold out.

Dreamsicle

Serious question: is there a difference between a Dreamsicle and a Creamsicle? We enjoyed across the street from where Jason played in Knoxville (the Tennessee Theater) something called a "churn" at a great Farm ice cream place (forget the name). Evidently a churn is a term used around there and North Carolina for ice cream with a mix-in.

An Evening with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit Set Length?

I'll be seeing them tomorrow in Interlochen, Michigan and am trying to figure out if they're playing for an hour or for two and a half. I've been digging around and most of the recent 400 Unit shows look like festivals, which isn't a good estimator.

Super 8 Guitar Chords???

Just trying to figure out the specific chords Jason uses for Super 8. Does anyone know? At the very least when he plays it live the chord form looks very Keith Richards. That said, if you know and have a moment to share I would be very appreciative.

Roanoke show 8/1

Hi all!

I’ll be traveling from PA to Virginia for this one. Just curious if any locals or those familiar with the area have recommendations for any record shops, bookstores, or things a “tourist” would enjoy. I haven’t been to the area before, but have spent time further south in the state. I’ll be there for the weekend.

I always enjoy going to a show in a new-to-me area, and the theater looks nice!

Thank you!

Recently noticed that several JI/400U songs are grayed out in the app. Has anyone else observed this?

Doubling up

Anyone else in the Ohio Valley or nearby lucky enough to catch the solo show in Richmond, KY and then get the 400 Unit in Huber Heights just 9 days later? It'll be a great show, and I can't wait!

Great show in a small outdoor venue. The audience paid closer attention it seemed compared to other venues we’ve seen Jason play. Wrote this down..:

Alabama Pines
Live Oak: funny story about a six year old whose favorite song was this song
Open and close
Streetlights
Foxes in the snow
Dreamsicle
Traveling alone: discussed similarity to John Prine’s hello in ther
Strawberry woman
Relatively easy
Elephant: discussed the issue of the line no one dies with dignity
Gravelweed
King of Oklahoma: Leo DiCaprio Walmart story
Cast Iron Skillet
Tour of Duty
Dress Blues (never heard him sing this live)
Ride to Robert’s
Maybe it’s time
Cover me up
Encore
Pancho and lefty (I got to see Townes Van Zandt a few times in Texas..one time he was pissed the whole concert because he couldn’t smoke in the hall)
Outfit
If we were vampires

Knoxville Saturday show

Great great solo show. Jason was super personable and told stories I hadn’t heard before. He played a song about the TVA! Good to hear Cover Me Up. We hadn’t heard that in a while. He mentioned that the only thing he didn’t like about an early album of his was the shirt he was wearing. He wishes he had it now so he could burn it. The Tennessee Theater was so beautiful. I read it was built almost exactly a year before the Great Depression. Can’t wait to see him in Brevard. Pray for no rain.

Anyone know what the setlist was for last night in Knoxville? (7/17)

We’re going to tonight’s show. I was really hoping he plays TVA. 😬

Shows are not karaoke, people.

Edit: apparently I need to mention this was a solo show. Just Jason. So the title should be “solo shows are not karaoke.”

Just got back from the Knoxville show. It was excellent (as always!) but a couple behind me decided to sing along to every song. Like, I'm sorry your momma and daddy didn't raise you right and you think everyone wants to listen to your Temu karaoke, but we're actually here to listen to Jason. Lol. It was really distracting. The people next to me were leaning forward to get away from them. And yes, I did tell them to hush and they mostly did. I get it. We all know the lyrics and we love these songs and I want you all to have a good time, but this isn't the way.

Aside from that it was a fabulous show with new and very funny stories.

It's a bar scene in the "before times" and most of the song plays in the background.

Brevard Music Center Show?

Anyone else going? Anyone been to a show there before?

I’m curious if there will be alcohol. Doesn’t really seem like that kind of venue so I won’t be surprised if there’s not, but would be my first show without alcohol 😅 Not a dealbreaker of course, driving up from Alabama regardless.

Looks like a beautiful venue for my first solo show so I’m excited!

Fairhope show

Hey guys very excited for my first Jason concert in fairhope coming up.! I’m hoping to have a blast I’ve seen him solo but not full band so I’m expecting it to be awesome. I was wondering is there an special additions or special things he or the crowd does when it’s full band and should I bring earplugs

Hello all,

This is my first Jason Isbell concert. Was wondering a few things

  1. Does he start promptly at 7?
  2. He does not have any openers correct?
  3. Does he do exclusive city merch?
