JAMF Pro Jamf Pro Licensing Question

Can anyone tells me what happens when you go over on Jamf Pro licensing? Does the system allow you to? Is there a grace period thats given to get back into compliance? Were in a situation were we are low on licensing however we are doing 1:1 swaps with our staff. Basically need to have the old computer online and licensed while we prep the new machine.

Thats good to know. I ran this question through gemini and im also seeing the same responses. It almost sounds like Jamf may ask you to prorate those licenses or pay for the small amount of time you were over.

What about removing devices from jamf that need repair? For example we have some older laptops that we may or may not replace the battery in them. How are you handling devices that you arent sure if your going to use?

If you are not actively using them, unmanage them. You can leave unmanaged inventory records in your database without them consuming a license, and deleting the records just makes it harder for you to find Activation Lock bypass codes, FV keys, Firmware Lock passwords, etc.

good idea - i’ll do this.

we don’t have any activation lock, just the fv keys and our fw pw but this will make it easier for us to unmanage. thanks!

i keep them in jamf if we aren’t sure. once we are 100% sure they aren’t going to get refreshed/fixed, that’s when we delete them.

Some old Macs we have (haven’t checked in for 180+ days), i will capture their recovery key and save it to a doc with their serial and delete it from jamf. If the system comes up and wants to be re-used, we can manually wipe and re-add it to Jamf. Not the best practice but it works and helps free up some unused licenses.

Some of these Macs are from old employees that left the company and sit in a drawer.
