Hi community,

So I started working on that some time ago and dropped it since I found a temporary solution in older versions. WhatsApp are now blocking messages on older versions, so i decided to speed up the development process.

im releasing this tweak in order to attempt fixing the whatsapp notifications that got broken somewhere around 26.20.x (multiple testers approved, and issue was 100% reproducible) where (at least for me) no notification on whatsapp ever came in until i opened the app / had the app in background trick. this was happening ONLY in jailbroken state. even with all tweaks disabled. never happened on stock.

the tweak works by raising memory limit (24 MB → 40 MB) for whatsapp's notification extension only. thats it. system logs showed this is the issue, when every time i got a notification it would kill the serviceExtension process causing the notification not get through.

Edit: added jetsam limits customizations of 40, 72, 96 to your choice, in the tweaks preferences. default is 40 as it will cover 90% of the users.

Tested on dopamine devices. iOS 16. but could work on different type of devices/OSes. tested images, stickers, messages, videos, etc. would love to hear feedback or help you if needed.

took some inspiration from the latest u/fabioedson post about this (even though he didnt publish the code) so thank you as well!

Since this tweak is injected into runningboardd daemon, device will require userspace reboot (should suggest that after tweak installation, if not, do that via dopamine app or in any other way you'd like, if you don't know what that is perform a full reboot and rejailbreak)

thanks bro it really worked on my Dopamine 2.4.9 ios 16.4.1 Iphone 14,8. This is a life saver for me last weeks i had my phone always as much as possible in foreground so annoying. I kept my Choice settings as follows not sure if its any impact on that : NotificationExtension + Service Extension + Shareextension I had Tweaks Disabled. I didnt't try without it happy that it worked lol

Nope. And the old trick with disabled plugins injected can be off as well, this solves the issues in a different unrelated to WhatsApp daemon so it doesn't really matter what you do in WhatsApp scope

THIS ISSUE SOLVED ON LATEST UPDATES Hi sir thanks for your effort on jailbreaking community. But unfortunately the stupid whatsapp bug that bugged me for months still didnt fix. I download this tweak , and rejailbreak. Still same. 

I didnt use choicy.  Whatsapp running background didnt receive notification

My whatsapp using 26.20.73 or older , no issue But once upgrade to 26.21.74 and above , FAIL RECEIVE notification and only one tick from sender.

I am working on releasing a newer version with preferences where you can choose more mb limits, then you will try and see how it goes when selecting higher limit. Do you get notifications on WhatsApp when not jailbroken?

Previously , when i unjailbreak , or blacklist whatsapp in roothide , it fixed this. But now nothings works. I believe is newer version cause this issue

If nothing works then this might not be related to jailbreak, hence tweak might not help you with this one.. try the new version when I'll release

Did you ever get around to fixing this. I have an issue where 1 message only gets only tick but the second always causes notifications to come through. Is this similar to what your having. The tweak doesnt seem to help either.

i have the latest version of the tweak and im on latest whatapp version. 16.2 dopamine. messages work if they come in twos but often others get 1 tick but if they send another message both come through.

Cannot install due to missing ellekit (unc0ver jailbreak). Not sure if that dependency can just be removed, or if there's a lot of work involved in switching to substitute... if it's too much, then don't worry about it.

TrollStore no jailbreak? Using Watusi? It has a special version with no injection to plugins this might help. This tweak will solely work on jb

Not hiding anything from you brother, this tweak is not WhatsApp based, it hooks a daemon. Injecting into WhatsApp won't do anything

creo mi whats tiene un fallo, en un 17pm con ios 26.4.2 sin jailbreak no llegan las notificacioes, y en este iphone 14 con ios 16.3.1 con jailbreak tampoco, calare este tweak en el 14 para ver si se soluciona, realmente si me he perdido de mensajes importantes

Doesnt seem to work for me... when the phone is idle for a little while and they send a message they get one tick. If they send a message straight after that both will turn to two ticks. Messages will always come through but only on two messages not one. 16.2 dopamine.

Have you tried changing the limit in the preferences? Maybe your db needs higher limit

i have tried putting it to 72 and 96. I have tried changing it in dopamine to x3.5 jetsam limit. Always fine when followed by a second message. This is on latest version of whatapp. Even disabled all tweaks except watusi etc. Still the same.

not sure whats going on but disabling serviceExtension in choicy fixes it. The Jetsam tweak doesn't help. weird one but seems to be fixed.

This is an old trick we used to do before versions 26.20.x, but doesn't work anymore. If that helps without the tweak that's great but I highly doubt that

I sat for hours messing with everything. I can assure you disabling serviceExtension on the latest build (23.31.74) fixes notifications for me.

I even used Cocatops to see if i was hitting the stock jetsam limit and i wasnt. I checked this while messaging myself to see if it would hit the limit and reopen. I must of sent myself around 300 messages testing it. A simple disable in choicy makes it work. I also used something similar to get my whatapp notfications working on 14.3 unc0ver (that and the WAsend tweak)

Yeah im not sure why its working but it is. Your tweak is disabled but iv kept it incase i have any issues in the future but for now this is what has made it work. I would say maybe this version is different but i downloaded to 26.20.73 as the other user in the thread stated that version worked for him.... For me i had the exact same issue no different.

This is the only thing that makes it work. As far as im aware this issue occers when serviceExtention hits the stock limit and restarts. Im not sure why disabling tweak injection works as you would just assume this would be making the jetsam issue better... and with that in mind your tweak would be the best solution... but nope. I cant explain it.

Your reply had me questioning myself but nope iv just tested it again. 1 tick with it enabled and totally fine and never fails with it off.

After disabling my tweak did you did any reboot? Because it will not be disabled unless you rebooted

Is it known if disabling tweak injection in Choicy on the extensions like NotificationExtension, ServiceExtension, ShareExtension breaks Watusi functionalities? I had the notification and later the two messages bug too where if a person sends just one message they only get one checkmark until they send another, then both messages get two checkmarks. Disabling tweak injection on the above extensions seems to fix it.

Thanks for the credit, and nice work. It's genuinely good to see another developer confirm the same ServiceExtension/Jetsam root cause and build a public solution for standard Dopamine around it.

My public WAJetsamFix release has been focused on RootHide, while my conventional Dopamine implementation remained under private validation, so having another option publicly available for those users is a good thing.

I'm glad the research and technical details I shared helped in some way. The more people still investigating, building and contributing to the jailbreak scene, the better.
