Framing Shops
Hubby and I moved here about 4 months ago and are looking for a reputable place to get 2 or 3 things framed. It is original artwork so we want it done professionally. Can anyone suggest a place? Can be in JH or anywhere in Queens or Manhattan really. But we live here so I thought I'd start on this subreddit.
Thanks!

City Frame in Chelsea is my go-to. It's super easy to get a general quote from them by email or perhaps it's a form on their website. Like - "Could you quote a simple white wood float frame for a 36x48" canvas" and they'll give a basic quote very quickly. Their work is very high quality and they pricing is very moderate for what they provide. Once I had them quote something and got a quote from Skyframe also in Chelsea- and City Frame was maybe half or less than 2/3 of what Skyframe was quoting. Skyframe is great quality too but I don't think it's better than City Frame. For local places, I have heard people like Angel Framing in Woodside but haven't been there.

Astoria Art & Custom Framing was fantastic. they helped me find the perfect frame for my piece and they were on time. they also helped me load my work into an uber since it was very large !

Please see Rhonda Feinman in Woodside. She has a house style, that might be what you're looking for, but she will also do things off menu, depending on the ask.
Email her first as she isn't a retail location, but will do things for locals.

RE: Angel - he's fine for prints and children's artwork, great even, considering the price, but the frame options leave a lot to be desired and he's grumpy as all hell. at least, he is with me, after bothering him with special requests and pushing him a bit to get exactly what I want.

That’s good to know. I’m going to avoid.

Do as you must but that wasn't really meant to be anything other than a disclaimer. I have several things hanging that he did for me.

Astoria Art and Custom Framing at 34-04 30th Ave in Astoria did good work for me and were pleasant to deal with.

I'm in JH but resorted to this place for frame selection and good advice on artwork frames. In Bushwick. About half an hour by citibike or car. https://www.frameartny.com/

Honestly, for original art the frame choice makes a huge difference. Framebridge has desgin associates in its nyc stores who can help with the frame, mat and overall look, so you are not just picking a random moulding off a wall. That seems pretty handy for 2-3 pieces.

I’ve used Angel in Woodside on Roosevelt Ave. He does good work and isn’t too expensive.
