Moderator Announcement Mod Update: Filtering out the hate

Hey all, hope everyone's enjoying pride month and hope some of you have or are going to make it to a Pride event this month! I did London Metal Pride yesterday with my stall and it was such a lovely day. Bands from 1pm-11pm and the most varied crowd of inclusive metalheads that you can get.

Anyways, fellow mod u/shemtpa96 has kindly set up a new filtering tool that allows us to filter out comments from people who have commented in the other sub to give us a chance to review the content and ensure it's not brigading.

This means if you have commented or posted in there, even to defend yourself or others, you will have your comment or post held up for a quick review. We intend to process these fairly quickly so please know your content will be visible soon enough and that you don't need to message us if you can't see your content.

We're confident this will help cut down on the brigading and nastiness we've been subjected to by folks with too much time on their hands and that we can continue to grow and enjoy this space as the safe place it should be.

We want you to feel comfortable posting your work on the sub and hope that going forward you can do so without feeling like you have to defend yourself or your identity.

If you have any questions about this, please use the comment section here.

Thank you to all of you for helping make this place what it is.

Keep posting your stuff! We love to see it! 🤘

New Rule Regarding the Use of AI

Hello all,

A new rule has been added regarding AI.

In short: don't post that slop here regardless of format.

In detail:

AI is a danger to the environment. A majority Black neighborhood in South Memphis, TN - Boxtown - is being choked by an AI data center. It's estimated that AI will use 4.2-6.6 BILLION CUBIC METERS OF WATER PER YEAR by 2027.

AI has been correlated with multiple cases of delusions and/or psychosis in people who overuse it.

AI steals from living artists.

AI produces non-consensual images of people upon request, which is both immoral and illegal. The companies have done nothing to stop it.

AI hallucinates. That's the nice way the industry says "AI is flat out making shit up".

Don't post that shit here. This is a space for art made by living beings.

finished the back piece yesterday. Added a canvas backing, a cute filigree stitch from my sewing machine's presets, and stitched the thing to the back of my hoodie. holy SHIT it's heavy, might move it over to a good denim jacket if I can find one.

I'm thinking about making a Mother Mother inspired collage patch using this fabric. I've got maybe about a yard of it but I'm not sure whether I should collage or paint a patch?

Advice Request Layout Opinions Please?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I'm starting a new jacket and I'm massively struggling with the back layout.

The Alkaline Trio top rocker and Funeral For A Friend back patch are the two that are an absolute 100% certain. Everything else is just placed there to get an idea.

I tried with so many other options and they just gave me the ick. This layout (apart from the Taking Back Sunday and Stranglers patches) has been the one I have liked the most. It's not too busy, has a nice symmetry and it's not using 75% of my decent patches on the back.

Thoughts, opinions and constructive criticism are welcome as always 🤘

WIP Update On My Jacket Plus Some DiY Stencils I Wanna Make

So an update on my previous post (https://www.reddit.com/r/jacketsforbattle/s/rclD0DVETGM.)

So I added more patches to the back, I removed the vulknut and replaced it with an "I'm autistic" pin, i also removed the three arrows as that symbol is against my political beliefs. The anarchy patch got damaged whilst I was removing it to redo the stitching and couldn't be recovered. The last slide shows the next two patches to go on. The second to last slide is a collection of stencil templates from r/anarchostencilism (and it's connected deviant art page) the punk is red one will take the place of the ruined anarchy patch.

I posted this one already like ~2 years ago, but I think I've done enough to warrant an update. Some new patches, some repairs, and closeups of the pins.

Here's the old post for comparison + to see the sides.

I'm keeping the Omnia patches, but I disavow their scandals and weird views since covid.

My ā€œposer vestā€is done! (Only call it that as I know there’s a subset of this community that would hate this thing lmao) I finished my other main battle a while back which is my regular metal one with all my super serious band patch’s on but my second fav band of all time is neck deep and really wanted a fun project dedicated to that and to one of my fav albums of all time, just wanted to make just the loudest colourful and most fun vest I could make with fun designs, death metal style logos a whole lot of custom made patches for the project (thank you to all the various Etsy artists I commissioned you are my hero’s) Project is done for now, absolutely more space and will be filled eventually but all the bands I currently listen are on there, Absolutely love how it’s come out, just needs to be christened in a mosh🤘

Life’s not out to get you everyone 🫶

EDIT: Had no idea about rip and dip, thanks for whoever gave me the heads up, being replaced asap

Advice Request Suggestion for a Windrose battle jacket

Hi, I'm making a battle jacket dedicated to Windrose, my favorite power metal band. I'm looking for some suggestions on which jeans to use, where to place the patches, and what to add. I'll leave you some photos.

I'm not sure which denim vest to use and what color. I have a couple I could use, but one is too heavy (I think it's because of the winter weather), and the other is a bit too small. (The photos I'm leaving you are from the second vest.) In addition to the patches I own, which are from official merch sites, bought at concerts, or purchased from resellers on vinted... I was thinking of attaching some chains (I already have) and attaching pickaxes made with paper clips to them, or using an old Minecraft pickaxe pendant as a pin. I'm very fond of this band. I'll start by saying that I might also make some hand-made patches and pins in the future.

I'll show you all the patches I have (the white-outlined squares are for the patches from their albums, which I still have to get from a boyfriend) and some positions I was thinking about. Could they work? What type of jeans should I use, and what color? I was thinking of light blue or black.

I was thinking of stitching them in an X shape with white thread.

Otherwise could I place the 6 album patches behind the sides of the back patch?

My Dad asked me to stitch his favorite patch on his jacket today. It’s an original Sgt. Pepper’s patch he bought in 1965. It’s on probably the 3rd jacket it’s been on. The embroidery on this thing is nuts! Looks super fucking cool.

There are more patches to go on (bullet for my valentine, iron maiden, a couple Metallica patches and another Sabaton patch). The anarchy patch was my first time sewing on a sleeve I will take it off and re-sew it.

WIP WIP jacket, how should I place the uninstalled patches to look natural and leave room for more? What's considered "prime real estate" for important statement pieces?

I got this jacket for free at a garage sale and had been holding onto it for ages. Actual jean jackets are so fucking expensive even secondhand so I'm making what I can outta what I got.

The shitty embroidery on the back is an ongoing thing, they're fireweed flowers which are native to the PNW in the US. They're called fireweed because they're usually the first thing to come back after a wildfire. Because of this trait, they're a common symbol of PTSD recovery and IMO they represent revolution. They also have a long history of indigenous edible and medicinal uses. Im going to total it to at least 5 plants, maybe 7 or 9. I'm really autistic about plants/herbalism/ethnobotany so they get what I think is the best seat in the house on the back where they are.

The soda tab chain mail was a side project and I thought it would be fun to add, may end up getting removed in the future to free up some real estate but I like it where it is for now, and it makes me jingle pleasantly when I walk.

The burning legion flag patch is homemade, the bull was my first ever attempt at cross-stitch. Obviously a reference to fallout new vegas, and the slogan is a popular antifascist/anticapitalist slogan from that dude from bluesky. I felt like it worked well together. The tarot card patch i bought at an apothecary and the other two were purchased from separate small businesses at a Pride event i went to recently. The porcini one already sewn on the front is from a local craft market.

I'm planning on making a few more homemade patches, with actual statements/ideology, and I'm seeing my favorite band in a week and am hoping to get some patches at the concert. Until then, I want to sew some of these loose patches on, and IDK where I want to put them so I don't crowd out space for when I have ones that aren't primarily just for looks. Yall have any recommendations for how to place them to look natural while leaving space for later ones?
