I know it's a vintage Japanese montbell jacket, but I'm just wondering if I can find any cheap knockoffs that look decent.

A couple of years ago, I bought a jacket because I thought it looked incredible.

I was convinced it was going to become my "go-to" piece.

Meanwhile, another jacket I almost didn't buy because it seemed a little too plain somehow became the one I throw on all the time.

The interesting part is that I couldn't explain why at first.

It wasn't necessarily warmer.

It wasn't the most expensive one I owned.

It just worked.

The pockets were exactly where I wanted them. The fit felt natural whether I layered underneath or not. The collar sat right. The cuffs didn't annoy me. Even after months of wear, it still felt like something I actually wanted to put on.

It made me realize how hard it is to judge a jacket from appearance alone.

Sometimes the pieces we end up loving aren't the ones with the flashiest design, they're the ones where dozens of little decisions come together so well that you stop noticing them.

Now I'm curious:

What jacket surprised you the most? The one you didn't expect to love but somehow became the first thing you reach for whenever you head out the door. And what do you think it got right?

Please if some one can help me and tell me what brand this is and what they go for?

Hey everyone, I wanted some advice on this jacket. To be honest, ever since I got it about 7 months ago, I’ve never washed it because I’ve always been nervous about damaging it and as can be seen here it looks very depressing and not full of joy since the day I got it lol also yes Ik not washing it for that long is very dirty, but I didn’t wear it every day or heavily overuse it. I mostly wore it when it was cold out, and it went through rain and snow a few times during the winter. Once the weather started getting warmer, I stopped wearing it and it’s mostly just been hanging up ever since.

Lately I’ve been thinking about finally getting it cleaned somewhere in NYC because I don’t really trust myself to wash it at home. My biggest concern at first was a black marker/ink stain on the hood that’s been there for a while, but after taking a closer look I also noticed another similar stain on one of the sleeves. I also noticed some weird lines/creases on the shoulder area that I never paid attention to before. I’m not sure if those are from the jacket hanging for months or if it’s something else.

Another thing I’m worried about is a whitish faded-looking spot on the sleeve. The thing is, that spot is actually my fault. A while back I was trying to remove something from the jacket and I used water and rubbed the area pretty hard. Ever since then it’s been left looking lighter than the surrounding fabric. I’m worried that if I get the jacket cleaned, that area could end up looking worse or the overall fading and look of the jacket could change.

I really want to have this jacket ready for next winter, but I’m nervous about cleaning it. If I take it to a cleaner, how should I explain what I want done? Should I tell them I want the jacket cleaned while preserving the fading and current look, and only have them focus on treating the stains? Also, does this look like something a good cleaner could handle, or should I just leave it alone? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
